Gallery / Appartment in Paris
« on: 2017-02-06, 23:33:16 »
Hi all!

Last weekend I finished the first part of a personal work I am doing for an interior designer here in Paris.
The bathroom space is finished and will follow the kitchen and living room in the next weeks.

LUT was used straight from the Corona VFB while in post I added a slight Chromatic Aberration and in Lightroom just a bit of sharpness.
The fireplace's marble has a slight SSS effect and all the materials are PBR based. The scene is illuminated by a Corona Sun/Sky + the self illumination material on the light fixtures.

Keep tuned for the rest.

Have a nice evening all!

Hi guys, is it me or CoronaTriplanar doesn't work when used in Multi/Sub-Object setup? Neither Scale and Offset parameters have any effect!

I use the build 09/01/2017.

Thanks,

Work in Progress/Tests / Renovation Bathroom in Paris
« on: 2017-01-23, 21:28:55 »
Hi guys,

I am working these days on a new project for a client of mine. This is a personal thing.
Is about a restoration of an appartement here in Paris and the client, interior designer, needs some images for marketing purposes.
I started working on the bathroom space and will follow the kitchen and living room in the next days.

All the arch. parts and some accessories are modelled by me in 3ds Max. The rest is library material.

LUT is used straight from the Corona VFB while in post I added a slight Chromatic Aberration and in Lightroom some sharpness and a very very light Kelvin correction, nothing else.
So, what do you think? These are the first WIP images produced today.

Nice evening to everybody!!!

[Max] Resolved Bugs / Monitor 4K & Crona VFB pixel size
« on: 2017-01-21, 23:16:27 »
Hi guys!

I notice a small bug here while using 4K monitors where the size in pixels of the real rendered area in the Corona VFB is not correct. (I love working lately with 4K monitors btw).

How to reproduce:

- Hit Render button.
- Render a 1000x1000 pixel image. You should already notice that the render area is smaller than it should really be.
- Hit Stop render and then > Max (copy image to 3ds Max VFB).
- The 3ds Max has the correct size now while the Corona VFB didn't.

I use 3ds Max 2017.

Please let me know if you notice this problem too.

Thanks!

[Max] Feature Requests / IES scale solution
« on: 2016-10-18, 15:51:25 »
Due to this post: https://forum.corona-renderer.com/index.php/topic,13397.0.html

probably the problem here is 3ds Max and Vray already solved it like this:

- when on (the default), this option aligns the VRayLight, VRaySun, VRaySky and VRayPhysicalCamera to the photometric units used by 3ds Max and its photometric lights. When this is off, these plugins operate in the internal V-Ray photometric space, like in older versions of V-Ray. Keeping this option on ensures that a VRayLight with a given power will match a 3ds Max photometric light with the same power.

Maybe we should add a similar option? Please? Please? Please?

[Max] General Discussion / IES strange intensity behavior
« on: 2016-10-10, 12:17:42 »
Hi all, I am working on a big international project and I am having some issues by using IES file information in Corona. I really need an accurate simulation but I have some strong doubts on how the engine treats the IES files and their intensity values.

In the past years I always used the native 3ds Max photometric lights where once loaded an IES file, the intensity values are driven automatically so the "cd" and "lm" values are written as in the file by the manufacturer.

In Corona of course this doesn't happen, so the user must manually do this and here is where I find a big difference or BUG?!?!?

Take a look at the IES Comparison image I uploaded here, the 3ds Max Photometric Light reads automatically and correctly the "lm" value. Now if we want to get the same result in Corona the "lm" value has to be set too way low?!? How this is possible? This kind of difference is very important for a natural based result!

The IES file has a 2.217,831lm value and Corona must be set to 47,123lm for the same intensity result!
Also in the 3ds Max Photometric Light's menu, if you change from "lm" to "cd" the values are correct but in Corona, if you change from "lm" to "cd" and you put manually the values from the IES data information, the result is different! O.o

I included a iGuzzini IES file here and from the IES info I read:

5.129.6cd which are 2.291,772lm

In Corona, 5.129.6cd has different intensity results if compared to 2.291,772lm. What a mess... :(

Looking forward for an answer.

Thanks,

Dionysios -

Hi guys, I noticed something weird and not correct IMHO.

Here are the steps:

1. Create a Corona Light and set Kelvin color to 3.500
2. Render and in the VFB set White Balance Kelvin to 3.500

Result: The light's color has a bad coloration in general and is not white as it should be. The lighted surfaces have not a correct contrast and highlights and the image seems darker.

Now do this:

1. Create a Corona Light and set Kelvin color to 5.000
2. Render and in the VFB set White Balance Kelvin to 5.000

Result: Much better and lighting seems more efficient!

So, In the first case, it should be the same result as in the second one as the White Balance has the same K values. But is not like this, actually it seems that using warm K values the light is a bit altered.

I attached some very fast test for this.

What do you think?

Gallery / Test Corona 1.5 RC1 - Kitchen Interior Set
« on: 2016-10-03, 14:11:59 »
Hi all!

This weekend I decided to test the new RC1 with all the "candies and toys" we have inside now.
I got an old scene of mine (Delta Tracing) and I changed some things, furniture, colors and materials.

I used PBR, Bloom/Glare and LUT. The only post production element added in all the images is the chromatic aberration, the rest was produced and saved out by Corona VFB.
The LUT I used is a bit cold and I chose it on purpose.

The images were produced in 2000x2000 pixels (not high res yet) in approximately 20 minutes with a Dual Xeon machine I have at home and I worked half Saturday and all Sunday to complete and render the scene.

Nothing spectacular, just wanted to play a bit with the engine...

Have a nice day everybody!

[Max] General Discussion / New LUT & Highlights
« on: 2016-10-02, 20:50:48 »
Hi guys,

I noticed while using LUTs that the "old" highlights compression works a bit better that the filmic one as the last one makes the image too flat IMHO or in some cases doesn't have any effect at all... O.o
I guess is normal due ti the nature of the filmic curve?!?!?

Thanks,

[Max] Resolved Bugs / Corona Color Picker, works?
« on: 2016-09-19, 11:36:17 »
Hi guys, I installed a while ago the new build (18/09/16) and I happily noticed that the new Corona Color Picker now is activated in all menus but when I try to change the Kelvin numeric value strange things are happening... I am typing 4500 and it writes 0000 or 1700 or nothing. Is still under development right?

Thanks,

Dionysios -

Hi guys, don't know if you ever talked about it, would be very useful and correct to get a "temperature slider" in the CoronaLightMtl.

What do you think?

Hi guys,

these days arrived some brand new PCs to dedicate to our Corona production:

2 Nodes specs:
2 x Intel Xeon  E5-2650v4

Main Workstation:
2x Intel Xeon E5-2683v4

The workstation is not yet online but I had the possibility to test the 2 nodes for now.
I tried the Corona Benchmark and the result is as expected. So everything is ok, we're about 1min 02sec for each node.

But

- Once I try to use them via Backburner & DR the main node who gets the job sometimes gives a 109 3ds max adapter error.
- When finally the render job starts 3dsmax.exe process seems blocked for a few seconds, then gets back, blocked again, get back and so on till the end of the process.
- During all the BB session VFB seems freezed.

Things to know and take in consideration:

3ds Max 2017 SP2
Corona latest Daily Build 1.5

Windows Update still needs to start installing all the Win 7 updates for each node. Could be the main problem of this strange behavior???
As the network here in office is a bit complicated the nodes didn't started yet to download any of the windows updates due to a delay of the main server. So I need to wait...

Thanks in advance,

Dionysios -

« on: 2016-07-21, 16:27:18 »
Hi guys, since yesterday I use 3ds Max 2017 and the latest daily Corona build and when I save an OpenEXR file I get a very weird result. (see attached image)

I am the only one here?

[Max] General Discussion / Refraction question...
« on: 2016-07-20, 18:27:52 »
Hi all,

I am wondering why a glass material when caustics are turned on doesn't work as it should.
It seems like having a solid wall...

I tried PT+UHD / PT+PT with MSI 100/200/500/1000 and the result is always the same.

Thanks,

[Max] Resolved Bugs / DR - Something is wrong
« on: 2016-05-09, 11:57:26 »
Hi guys, sorry for getting back with this issue but I don't understand something here... As you can see from my screenshots the DR servers seem to not processing the passes correctly. Now, I don't know if this is our network problem or Corona's one.

Here is the scenario:

- Image sent via Backburner to DR Master PC, in total are used 3 PCs (1 DR Master + DR Slaves)
- The renders starts successfully and all the machines start calculating the initial pass.
- After a while the main passes started to be calculated on the DR Master but the DR Slaves are always stopped at the initial pass. (see image: DR_Slave.jpg)
- In the VFB of the DR Master I see no passes loaded from the DR Servers, after about an hour of processing. (see image: DR_Master.jpg)
- Opening the Backburner Server app I see errors (see image; Backburner_Errors.jpg)

This is what I was talking about some days ago, at this point, how do we know what the DR Servers exactly do? Are they calculating or not? I think not!

Let me know what do you think...

Thanks,

Dionysios -
