Not a particular fix, but I've found that having multiple versions of Max installed can cause problems - especially viewport ones. In my case its been buttons dissapearing, imput boxes not accepting inputs, layer manager freezing and half dissapearing, loads of wierd stuff. All cured by getting rid of previous versions.

Takes a while to uninstall all the crap that 3dsmax puts on though. Just installed in 3dsmax doesnt get rid of everything from that version, theres loads of other things to uninstall one at a time in add/remove programs.

As for general viewport movement slowness, are you i windows 10?. Have a look if antimalware-windows defender is constantly using Network Mbps (task manager), disabling the continuous scanning was a massive improvement for me.

Sorted now.

If you just put a name at the end of each ip address in the text file then it still picks up the slaves just fine

whats in your actual text file?

I'm guessing youve got a hostname on each line rather than just the ip address? (as your resolved name column is still not filed in)

This is what I get from Search Lan vs From File (the file has just the ip addresses in - Id like to be able to put the resolved name in there in some way as well - is that possible?)

When using a text file to specify the Dr slaves ip addresses - is there a way to have it read the resolved name of the dr machine as well?

I'd prefer to use the from file option because search lan can be a bit hit and miss sometimes, no picking up all of the active slaves. But when when the file just has the Ip addresses in it you lose the convienience of having the resolved name column filed in for each ip address

This would be a nice feature.

At the moment if you want to colour pick from a photo of website etc (anything thats not in the max window) you have to carefully position stuff on the screen so that you can use the colour picker and still get to the image you are picking from without 3dsmax blocking your image. Its a little easier with 2 monitors but still a pain, can imagine it being a total pain on just 1 monitor.

If you want them to be in the render it would be easier to use 2d people set to always face the camera (i.e how things work by default in sketchup).  Give them a bit of thickness so that the materials behave how you want.

The sketchup warehouse would be the best place to find the 2d people as well.

Even though 8k is big, its divided up by alot of bricks. Looks like 24 bricks wide, so thats only 333px per brick - which when you look at it that way, its not very high res for those fine joint lines.

You could lower the screen size in Displacement under Performance in the render settings.

Use a Corona Layered material. Take a look at the Carpaints category in the Corona materials library for some examples.

Do you have any Railclone in the scene? I had something similar recently. i.e. same corona error message and the viewports were behaving crazy as if an object was miles away from the origin. Worked out it was a simple railclone object causing it (when turned off the problem disappeared) . I couldn't fix it so just deleted and rebuilt the railclone and that fixed it.

Edit - Ha! forget that, was scrolling through unread posts and didn't realise this was a C4D post, so cant be railclone for you.

Yep, not suggesting that caustics slowing down rendering is totally unfounded. I was only talking specifically about opaque glass lights such as this example and window glass for interior scenes (also tested that on a scene and caustics switched on on the window glass does seem to speed it up, although it cut down on the amount of light entering obviously)

Try turning on caustics in your window glass.

Thanks thats an interesting workaround.

Any idea why it actually renders faster with caustics turned on?

I ran the same 2 min test with your rayswitch material setup, caustics on and caustics off - and a smudges etc map in the glossiness to replicate setting glossiness to less than 1.0.

Slowest is caustics off - only 34 passes. Caustics on - 43 passes. Rayswitch glass - 44 passes

So the rayswitch setup works and renders the fastest, but the reflection doesn't fully match the original object, so even though its a bit quicker I think just ticking caustics works best - as its almost as quick and looks better plus you don't have to spend the time building a rayswitch material.
