[C4D] General Discussion / Re: Node Editor Functionality
« on: Yesterday at 12:22:36 »
Doesn't the native node editor in C4D do that? The fact that it is a canvas for many different materials at once is one of the distinguishing strengths of the Corona Node Editor :) Anyway, this would be a feature request if the native C4D node editor doesn't fit the bill (which it might), and if so please post on the Ideas Portal which is the place to submit feature requests these days, over at https://chaoscorona.ideas.aha.io/ - thanks!

I haven't made it through the whole course yet either, but doing a video or two a day, and I agree that it is very interesting and informative! An education in just what AI can (and can't) do and how to use it in a way that makes sense and not just splatter it over everything ;)

[C4D] Bug Reporting / Re: VFB 2 /
« on: 2025-03-20, 16:58:02 »
For crashes, the minidump is always helpful when available, and it (or they) can be attached to a ticket. If you have looked for one and it's not there, add that info :)

For versions, please let us know which version of macOS, and for Corona versions, which daily - there are many "13 dailies" and bugs and issues can come and go between each. Corona menu, About, then you will get something like "13 (Daily Build Dec 3 2024)" which is what we'd need to know.

See https://support.chaos.com/hc/en-us/articles/4648898278545-How-to-report-issues-C4D on how to find and send the minidump.

Thanks!

You are welcome! Glad we found a way to make this work for you :)

Aha, I read it as two separate images with two separate links heh, and not a zip link and image link. TY!

Instead of copy-paste, you could try starting a new empty scene, Merging things into that from the previous scene before adding any objects or lights or anything else, and see if the config will load and work then. No guarantees mind you, just a thought that it might preserve some ids or similar that LightMix uses to know what is what.

Sounds worth a ticket, and would need more info - what is your CPU, your RAM, you do mean Corona 12 Update 1 (Hotfix 1) and not Corona 12 (Hotfix 1), an example scene that is slow for you, and the info on this being with Max 2024 repeated on the ticket. https://support.chaos.com/requests/new

You might want to check out this course from our friends at The Common Point, which shows using AI alongside 3D (and the 3D is of course Corona). https://thecommonpoint.com/ai

EDIT: PS - the results they get are definitely not underwhelming :)

PS -
for using cryptomatte in PS.

Photoshop does support CXR - you rename it to EXR :) CXR is just EXR file format with extra metadata, that Photoshop will ignore on loading. A batch rename tool can be used if you have several CXRs you want to turn into EXRs. As a note, don't forget Photoshop needs EXR-IO to load EXRs properly (and you will need to chose options for EXR-IO to load cryptomatte data).

The saving an image sequence to CXR and not just saving from the VFB was added in Corona 12 Update 1, https://www.chaos.com/blog/corona-12-update-1, "Added option to save CXR file directly in Save tab in render settings. This should work in batch rendering or when rendering takes."

You say "new files" - saved LightMix configs can only be loaded and used into the same scene they were saved from, not into totally brand new scenes. (OFC loading it into the original scene it was saved from where that scene has been edited will work in most cases too, though if you have deleted, renamed, cloned, or added new lights etc. then your mileage may vary). Can you let us know if this is what you meant, or if you were trying loading the .conf back into the same scene it was saved from?

So there was some copy and pasting, but not entirely sure of that process - was that a Merge the scene in? A literal copy and paste as in CTRL C, close scene, in new scene, CTRL V? I can see how that might not work too as the "id" of the light will have changed in the new scene.

Can you share that very simple scene version, or at least screengrab both the base glass material and decal material set up? Thanks!

Why not go the image sequence route? It's very much recommended, because if anything goes wrong (power outage, crash, etc) you can pick up where you left off, or just re-render particular frames; if you render to an animation format direct from the DCC, you have to render the entire animation again, which can be a very long wait :O
