Hey guys,

You mentioned the other day that with 2.5d displacement you expect not to get any more holes that were previously generated when pushing the triangles apart from two surfaces. I've uploaded a very simple test scene 1573146645_displacement-troubles.max - can you take a look? Maybe we're doing something stupid. It's currently set up using a max tile map but same thing happens with a coronabitmap.

Cheers,

Hi Alex,

This seems to be a case where the displacement can struggle. I have reported it to our dev team and we will work on improving the quality of the displacement in this case.

Cheers,

Rowan

Hi Alex, I'm having all sorts of issues with 2.5D displacement.  Not sure if you've seen my thread but is that the same issue?

Not sure it's the same thing. I was testing the same thing as you and didn't find any issues with displacement along a curved edge. I did notice that smoothing played a big part in whether it would look correct or not so best check that. I think this is a separate issue.

Hi Guys,

We have greatly improved the 2.5d displacement tessellation in the latest v7 daily build.

It should remove a great deal of the artifacts which were caused by the 2.5d displacement. You can find a build here: https://forum.corona-renderer.com/index.php?topic=30876.msg182287#msg182287

I will look forward to your feedback.

@Alex, I tested this with the scene you provided and it is still not perfect but it is much improved. I was able to get even better results by lowering the screen px value a bit. Of course this used more memory, but it still used less memory than the old displacement.

Cheers,

Rowan

Hi,

Great! I will keep an eye out for your feedback :)

Just to give you a teaser, I uploaded my tests with your scene to a comparer: https://corona-renderer.com/comparer/fdPqkx

Thanks,
