Hi guys,

Not sure if known, but coronabitmap doesn't show the map at all in the material preview if you're using anything other than map channel 1 - it just displays the diffuse colour. It works fine in max bitmap. Can this be looked into?

[Max] I need help! / 2.5D Displacement still producing holes
« on: 2019-11-07, 18:13:02 »
Hey guys,

You mentioned the other day that with 2.5d displacement you expect not to get any more holes that were previously generated when pushing the triangles apart from two surfaces. I've uploaded a very simple test scene 1573146645_displacement-troubles.max - can you take a look? Maybe we're doing something stupid. It's currently set up using a max tile map but same thing happens with a coronabitmap.

[Max] Feature Requests / VFB Markup Tool (AKA red pen)
« on: 2019-09-12, 12:46:42 »
Just had a thought, perhaps already suggested before by someone... how about a simple red pen markup tool within VFB/IR? Happens countless times - set off a render, spot something you need to change, then.. you have to make a note down somehow. Better if we could just scribble a circle around something, or draw lines or whatever. Just something you can turn on/off easily.

Hey devs,

Could we please get a right-click IR/docked menu item to quickly enable/disable Fast Preview Denoising. Per that other thread where this is being discussed (https://forum.corona-renderer.com/index.php?topic=25217.new;topicseen#new) this is something we turn on and off all the time when moving from overall lighting/composition/exposure testing to detail work such as texturing fabrics/uvws/planting/grass etc. which requires full fine detail which Fast Preview Denoising is unsuitable for.

Anyone got a handy bit of script that will set the material's alpha mode for the selected objects to "Default"?

Have thousands of books with covers that have "always black" and it's a huge pain.

Hi guys,

Is it correct that adaptive light solver is OFF by default in v4 when opening old scenes from v2?

Should we turn it on? Guessing it can only help speed things up?

When using CoronaTonemapControl to stop a background photo having exp/tone mapping affecting it, when using a coronacamera and playing around with those controls it also affects the background, until you turn On and back Off those switches in the map. Basically it's just very fiddly. I've also managed to crash max a few times by doing this too quickly.

This is all while using viewport IR by the way.

I think we have nailed down a problem we've been having in the studio where max/corona windows suddenly start flickering on and off and getting focus/no focus, we think it's happening when CoronaAutosave kicks in during a render. It seems not to happen when monitors are off/sleeping so overnight full-res renders are finishing fine and autosaving just fine - but when running a simple mid-res render during the day when monitor is on and UI is showing, we think when autosave kicks in this is when it happens.

Can't verify for sure but pretty sure about this.

Hi chaps,

Testing CoronaOutput to try to stop maps from being affected by tone mapping.

It seems that in order to get a map (say a background plate photo) to be totally unaffected by VFB tone mapping you can only really achieve this when using this inside an override slot such as Direct visibility override. If you use this on a map which is on an object in the scene, for example a large sphere or cylinder, it doesn't appear to work fully - it does ignore certain things like major exposure changes but not important things like WB etc.

Is this a bug or a limitation, and is there any workaround? We're loading some manually-mapped cylinders into view files to be used as reflection drivers, so unfortuantely they can't easily be used in override slots. Having this functionality work on in-scene objects would be extremely beneficial...

Thanks,

When you push the Lightmix >Scene button it zeroes out the VFB (correct) but it also zeroes out all the images you've saved in the History (incorrect).

Currently if you have a simple disk corona light drawn in plan facing down (classic ceiling light for example) or a long rectangular light, and you change it to Cylinder, its orientation is wrong and it seems to take the shortest dimension as the longest and visa versa.

A simple example would be that a 1m long by 0.5m wide rect light should "convert" into a cylindrical light that is 1m long by 0.5m in diameter - but it doesn't. It turns into 1m diameter and height of 0.5m. They just need to be reversed, basically.

Hi chaps,

When rendering from a VR 360 coronacamera and when using Limit to Visibility by Active Camera in a Forest object, the Forest object doesn't render properly/at all. You have to turn off Limit Visibility by Camera to get it to appear.

Hi,

Hope this could be implemented. It would be great to be able to load in an EXR/CXR into the CIE, apply your Bloom&Glare and then output that result as a separate element/pass for compositing. Currently we just have the ability to save out only the "flattened" result, effectively a new beauty pass. (Unless I've missed something in the CIE?).
