Do a quick region of a "critical zone" and see when it reaches an acceptable noise level for you. Remember how many passes it needed to reach that noise level and that's it. That's the best way to access it since noise varies a lot from scene to scene.

I had high expectations for PhysXPainter last year but it was so prone to crash to the point of being unusable. Meanwhile things might have changed, i don't know.

I'm trying to get used to work with my Wacom intuos inside 3ds max. Switching between 3dsmax and ZBrush can be a frustrating experience when it comes to Viewport navigation. 3ds max does it one way, ZBrush does it completely differently.
 
ZBrush's viewport navigation is elegant and fast to use. Just press the LMB or pen press to rotate around. Press Alt+LMB to pan and release ALT while pressing LMB down and dragging the pen to enter zoom mode. I'd love to be able to do this in 3ds max without having to press any of the pen buttons. In Max i'm unable to assign just LMB to rotate let alone enter in zoom mode with the Zbrush finesse :) Any ideas?

What render settings?! Rommullus is trying to help you out and you ask for render settings?! Be more specific and post your scene or at least images of what you're trying to render.

Hello,

I often use IR as an extended viewport and i was thinking if there's any way to bypass the "Click to start interactive session" message by for example assigning a macro to a script that starts IR and automatically ignores that message and starts right away. I know i can assign a keyboard shortcut to start IR window but is this possible for "activeshade mode"?

I don’t use DR so i’ll not contribute in that regard.
I’ve been testing the new daily build 24.2.2017 in 3ds Max 2017. It’s not by any means an exhaustive testing since only two scenes were tested.
 
PROS:
1) Noise is somewhat cleaner (judge for yourself by the images below);
2) IR is more responsive and faster. That’s a BIG pro! I see on trello that IR subsampling will be implemented. What does this mean in practical terms? Will it translate to IR being even faster than what it is in the current state?
 
CONS:
1) Final render is slower. 69seconds vs 76 seconds;
 
REQUESTS:
1) In the VFB an on/off checkbox for the sharpen and the denoising would be nice. Like the ones that exist for the other postproduction tools.

I have to say that IR works fine for me. Miles faster than Vray IPR! I use a dual Xeon 2696v3 setup and i don't have any problems with Evermotion trees also.

One of my Xeon 2696v3 is ES and it also underclocks with AVX2 workload just like its non-ES brother.

I haven't tried rendering this scene but i tried other scenes and haven't had any noise flickering problem. Probably i missed something in my workflow back then. I always precalculate cache prior to rendering and i haven't noticed any noise flickering.

I'll try this scene again with the new workflow and see if it solves it.

Could you share your foliage texturing workflow? Do you normally use maxtree ones? Great looking foliage IMO.
