Cinema 4D r25
Version • 9 (Daily Build Aug 30 2022)
Mac OS 12.5.1 Monterey

I know this has been report in the past, so not sure if this is still being worked on or what. I've been using quite a bit of their materials and many are still very glossy when imported into C4D.

This is one example: Plain_White_Sheer_2968708_16cm

Hi, that's odd. Other than the slight lighting difference between examples, it looks the same for me.

Aug 30 is a rather old daily build though, I'd try the latest one.

Well that looks better. Didn't see a lot of fixed or added items in the last build, so I didn't update. Plus is was only a couple of weeks between the two. Thanks.

Most welcome! Generally always worth installing the latest daily, just to be sure you have whatever is in it (quite often it's a lot!)

Do I understand this correctly, you need to be on the latest daily to get the latest Cosmos assets?
My understanding is that the cosmos browser is “just” a browser. The latest (updated) assets are loaded from the cosmos server.
Is that not the case?
What are these “updates” when opening the cosmos browser then?

There are two parts, the Cosmos browser, and how we load the materials. The latest daily fixed some issues with how we were loading materials, that previously looked too glossy. This is why you need the latest Corona daily to have materials look correct - please note that these are not the "latest" materials in Cosmos, they are just some that did not translate well to the Corona Physical Material before, but do now after we changed how we load them. Some are materials that have been visible and available in V-Ray for some time, but were not visible and available in Corona because they did not load well.

The browser updates can do various things, always best to say yes to any of its updates :)

Plus don't forget to update the Cosmos browser itself when that message pops up. This is separate from the daily builds.

The previously glossy materials were still usable, but you need to adjust the Glossiness/Roughness setting. At least that was the obvious issue.

I think the glossiness is fine with this metal Cosmos material, but the color is way off. Not sure if this is a similar issue with converting the material to Corona or maybe being displayed in a Linear scene? Actually, my scene was sRGB and I switched to Linear and imported again with the same results.

I tinkered a bit and found that when I removed the Mixture Shader from the Base Layer, it looks a lot closer. not sure how to adjust the highlights as it looks a bit flat now?

It seems the issue might be with the ''Top layer''. We'll have to look into it.
