[C4D] General Discussion / Alpha v6 RC1 released!
« on: 2016-10-31, 20:25:12 »
Corona for Cinema 4D Alpha 6 RC1 released!

Seamless integration of Corona into the C4D UI, the port to macOS, new features from the Corona Renderer 1.5 core (LightMix, bloom & glare, PBR materials, denoising, and more), plus a big push on stability - the last is why we are going with a Release Candidate today with all the new features, to give a few weeks for testing by you, our users "out in the field", before calling Alpha 6 final in 2 to 3 weeks!

Hi all!

We have an energetic topic going on about making Corona easier to use, but it will need to be turned into actionable items. I'd like to start with the question - which parameters or tooltips do you find hardest to understand? Is there one you've never touched because you don't know what it is, but wonder if you are missing out on some feature or control? Is there a tooltip that always left you scratching your head when you read it?

Please keep the conversation to a simple list of parameters and any comments on the tooltips for those - this will allow two possible solutions, either improved tooltips to make things clearer, or as a guide to new tutorials we could work on to clarify things. All other conversation on easy / expert UI checkboxes, adding or removing parameters, re-arranging the UI etc can be done elsewhere, to help keep us get the best info on where tooltip improvements and / or tutorials would be useful!

Thanks!

[Max] General Discussion / "Autofocus" for depth of field
« on: 2016-08-10, 22:46:22 »
Hi all!

Looking into this based on a customer question - how does everyone handle setting the right focus for DOF in their scenes? Did there used to be a script for this? Something along the lines of selecting the object that you want to be in focus, and perhaps a range for what is in focus and what is not, and the camera settings would get updated for that (ie, something that translates non-physical ways of setting DOF into the correct physical values)?

Anyone have good existing workflows for this?

Thanks!

[Max] General Discussion / DR vs Backburner for animations
« on: 2016-08-03, 16:09:28 »
Hi all!

Wanted to ask what are the major differences, and advantages and disadvantages, of using Distributed Rendering vs Backburner for rendering animations. I've pretty much always used Backburner, so that each machine renders its own frame in its entirety, with DR for stills so that all machines can help out on the one image.

In some initial testing (just a short 25 frames out of a test scene), DR seems slower than BB, and I think this is due to sending the scene afresh for every frame with DR, while the scene is sent just once at the beginning of the job when using BB? There'd also be sending the image updates across the network, but I think that would be a much smaller addition to the time?

Would there be any plus points to using DR vs BB? Any way to optimize for using DR?

Thanks!

Hi all!

Very pleased to say that the Corona for Cinema 4D road map is now open to the public!

https://trello.com/b/dgI8vjDb/corona-road-map-cinema-4d

This follows the same format as the road map for 3ds Max, and can be used to see what we are working on with the expected release dates so that you can keep an eye on all of that. We'll keep it updated, and it can be your "go to" source for the latest info on dates and features.

Thanks!
