Do you have the minidump you can send in, and to be precise, which of the several incarnations of Corona 8? :)

[Max] Feature Requests / Re: The most wanted feature?

Pattern should be very good at adding fuzzy hairs, without taking up too much resources (since the source geometry is only loaded once), if you don't want to wait :)

Chaos Corona 9 (Release Candidate 1) is out now, for both 3ds Max and Cinema 4D!
Everyone with an active license has access, and the downloads are in the usual locations.

Downloads and Change logs:
3ds Max
Cinema 4D

A Release Candidate is close to being the final release, but we need your feedback to catch any remaining bugs or other issues from real world testing.
Here are the major features in Corona 9:
  • Procedural Clouds - easily add clouds and airplane contrails to your procedural Corona sky. Unlike HDRIs, these are easily edited to match your scene, respond to the angle of the sun, and can be animated!
  • Corona Pattern - tile geometry as easily as you would tile a texture, giving you better results than alpha and bump maps, and using less memory too!
  • Edge Trimming in Chaos Scatter - get those lawns under control with neat edges!
  • Reduce memory required by Corona Bitmaps by up to 30%, with out-of-coretextures
  • Shutter Curves for Motion Blur so you can realistically or creatively control the blurring
  • Compatibility with Chaos Scans materials
  • And much more!

--------------------

Please test as much as possible and report your findings to us, so that we can make Corona 9 ready for release as quickly as we can! You can tell us about any issues by following the links below:

Great to hear! TY for letting us know :)

Corona 9 is already feature frozen, due for release in 2 weeks; it will be impossible to add this (or any other new feature) to 9, but it can be considered for a future version. Just to manage expectations :)

[Max] General Discussion / Re: washed out cosmos assets
« on: Today at 13:37:17 »
Please say which version of Max, which version of Corona, and which assets (you can post their name). Looks like a known issue where the IOR is too high, making them shiny, temporarily you can manually reduce the IOR after import.

(Internal ID=902432258)

Most of Cosmos's people assets; IOR Incorrect, Skin too dark and redish.
Check them out

As noted in my post that you quoted ;) "Please say which version of Max, which version of Corona, and which assets (you can post their name)" - it would also be good to see some screenshots showing what you mean, in particular along with info on lighting and tone mapping in case either of those are playing a part. Thanks!

[C4D] Daily Builds / Re: Corona Render Test M1 and M1 Max
« on: 2022-09-30, 22:34:21 »
If it's not in the changelog (https://forum.corona-renderer.com/index.php?topic=36221.msg203964#msg203964) likely nothing changed - sometimes something can be overlooked in the changelog but that is very rare, sorry.

Have you tried passing it through a hole after it is set to 100% directionality?

We'd like to know more about that, as IR and everything else is working fine here (have been using nothing but 2023 since a day or two after we came out with that daily - though of course I am using a newer daily now). Can you explain what is meant by doesn't work, e.g. it's black, it doesn't start, it crashes, it locks up? Thanks!

[Max] I need help! / Re: Slicer Material
« on: 2022-09-30, 15:45:54 »
You mean the way the two cylinders are being colored green is the problem?

Probably as those are the first faces encountered and they are taking on the slicer material. Could set the slicer to use the sliced object material instead, should clear it up as then it won't try applying the slicer green. (I am assuming here the slicer doesn't intersect those two cylinders though it's not 100% clear). Other than that, could add a tiny bit of thickness to the plane ;) Never hurts, e.g. walls and ceilings should always have some thickness anyway.

There are two parts, the Cosmos browser, and how we load the materials. The latest daily fixed some issues with how we were loading materials, that previously looked too glossy. This is why you need the latest Corona daily to have materials look correct - please note that these are not the "latest" materials in Cosmos, they are just some that did not translate well to the Corona Physical Material before, but do now after we changed how we load them. Some are materials that have been visible and available in V-Ray for some time, but were not visible and available in Corona because they did not load well.

The browser updates can do various things, always best to say yes to any of its updates :)

You can build this, at least I think this does what you want. Use a Corona Layer Shader, and a C4D native Normal Direction as the mask. Now you plug in what material you want in the front direction, what material you want in the back direction, and apply the Layer Shader to the Decal object. You could put the same base material from what you are projecting ONTO into the Base Material in the Layered Shader, but here I used a different one just so you can see which is which :) The approach here would be e.g. if you wanted a plain white back on the decal as you might find on the back of a label. Or a mirrored version of the front texture so it reads the right way.

You could also reverse the colors of the Normal Direction if you find it easier to think of the Base Material as the Decal and the Material 1 as the backside of the decal.

Most welcome! Generally always worth installing the latest daily, just to be sure you have whatever is in it (quite often it's a lot!)

To be honest, 30 passes does not sound like many - could just be that for this size of render, that covers such a wide angle of view (so shows more than most), that more passes and therefore more time is required.
