Need help ASAP PLEASE! Moroccan Lantern - Light Pattern on Walls

(1/1)

Sanch104:
Im trying to recreate a lighting effect in a space using a moroccan lantern, but all im getting is hard a spot on a ceiling and the pattern of the lantern. See images below. Any ideas???

The pattern on the lantern is modeled and it has some thickness to it. I tried using a corona light (sphere and disk) and its not working out.

NEED HELP PLEASE.

romullus:
It's all in the ratio between size and distance of the light source, the fixture's wall and the surface onto which the shadow is projected. If you want sharp shadows, you need the light source to be as small as possible, fixture's walls to be as far from the light source and as close to the surface as possible. There's already quite similar topics in the forum about this phenomena, you can use search and try to find them.

P.S. your reference looks kinda fake to me, are you sure it's a real photo?

Avi:
Hi,

It is the same as our friend Romullus just stated above.

It's all about the size of light and distance.

here is a rough short video showcasing the same. I hope this helps.

Sanch104:
Yes, thank you. Your video helped me understand the ratios but for some reason it still wont work. Ive tried changing the size of the corona light, the size of the lantern, and its location in the room but to no success.

Im starting to wonder if the model of the lantern itself is whats giving me the trouble? Maybe the perforations are too small?

I've uploaded my file for reference.

Avi:
Hi,

Please find the file attached.

If possible, use Corona lights with Corona renderer, not V-Ray.

In your file, I just used a Corona light with a small size and changed intensity. That's it. Intensity can be kept low by using real photographic value of ISO, Shutter in Corona Cam. I did it roughly just to show the effect.

I hope this helps.

Regards,
Avi
