Title: .ifl file support
Post by: actrask on 2019-04-19, 16:30:12
Would it be difficult to support .ifl files in CoronaBitmap? I'm having memory issues from batch rendering tons of shots that use huge bitmap files via .ifl, but I have to use 3dsmax's stock bitmap node. Would having those go through CoronaBitmap help with the memory or do I need to address that elsewhere?

Isn't IFL obsolete? I vaguelly remember it was replaced by something else in 3ds max.

That would be great news if there's something better! I'll have to dig into it, I had no idea. Do you have any idea what it's called?

No, sorry i don't. And i have no clue wether it's supported by Corona bitmap or not.

I haven't found any replacement for IFL files within max. No idea why you call it obsolete. We are trying to use HDRI lighting from hyperfocaldesign.com and the .EXR animation-frames are about 1000-frames long. They are combined in the IFL file.

The format is rather important, you can reverse the direction of the HDRI-animation within the IFL file using Notepad Extra ++

If Corona bitmap doesn't support IFL format, we are stuck with the native 3D Studio Max bitmap mode. There is no replacement, only the "time" addon in the shader itself can help you loop, ping pong or hold the animation when it reaches its final frame.

It's a challange to work with these animated EXR's. Combined they form over 12Gb in data. Would actualy be nice if Corona could lend a hand in dealing with such a data-load.

Yes, we also do a lot with it in still and animation.

If Corona bitmap doesn't support IFL format, we are stuck with the native 3D Studio Max bitmap mode.

Out of curiosity: why do you want to use Corona bitmap to drive IFL sequences - what's the advantage compared to std max bitmap in your opinion?

Good Luck

Why?

According to the Corona-bitmap page it would help with:
1.1. Rendering speed
1.2. Various filtering modes and blurring

Other then that, none I guess?

Hmm. I never saw any significant speed gain and it never ever was worth all the issues CBitmap has had since it was born. So using standard bitmap is completely ok for me when it comes to IFL sequences. Filtering? Well ... if needed in IFLs: maybe yes.

Good Luck
