I think what he is asking in the end is adaptivity, since if there is a part of the picture that is already clean this part will not take cpu time, while the rest of the still noisy image will be cleaned up until the desired level.

It's just he understand this as direct/indired because visually, the direct light effect (like a lamp or a sun entering through a windows) is alwasy clean before the rest of the picture, and that is why he understand this as direct/indirect, but I think it's more of a clean/unclean :)

Just what I understood from his description, and if that is what you are asking then... adaptivity is coming... to release soon! hehe

Cheers.

Good to know Ondra!

I still hope you will develop the project inhouse, but in any case is good to know that it can be done from the outside, the Blender community is very active :D

Cheers!

Can you sahre the animation when you have it? I'm curious about how denoising will work with an animation, if it may cause splotches.

Cheers.

Hi there.

I know the problem with Blender was the GPL, but in the same fashion vray and Octane are integrated into Blender, maybe with the new standalone the Blender integration can be turned in a commercial addon, the export code may be open source, but as long as the render is produced in the standalone Corona there should not be a problem with GPL and having to give the Corona addon with open source.

And now if Corona standalone supports Alembic and OpenVDB (the latter in the future)and Blender supports Alembic (wich is on it's way) then the integration could be done using Alembic instead of OBJ's like right now because I doubt we can export a fluid mesh using OBJ's and get the correct render result or an optimal file size for an animation.

Blender is becoming more and more important (along with C4D and Modo of course) with people planning to leave Autodesk, and this is not only said by me but it's a trend that many companies are seeing, dev team I can give you my source about this trend, but in private to respect them, but I can say it's a big and important company in the 3d business and they are seeing this in their clients, also my Autodesk reseller told me that too...

What do you think dev team? people?

Cheers.

I think the question here is "why do you need to remove it?"

It helps with antialias in some situations, not just tight situations, but also with very thin things like thin cables, if you want to hide it in some advanced place like devel/debug it's ok, but why to completely remove it?

BTW my question about bucket mode remains unanswered :)

Bucket rendering was great when we had troubles with things like DOF or motion blur, does this new adaptivity deal with those situation in the same efficient way?

Cheers.

It is abandoned until a need for it arises again (which may or may not happen). Only scenario I can think of is rendering huge resolutions with out of core VFB.

I had no time to test adaptivity yet becaue I just finished a rendering project the day before you released it hehe but does this means that the new adaptivity is more efficient than the old adaptivity present in bucket rendering?

Bucket rendering was great when we had troubles with things like DOF or motion blur, does this new adaptivity deal with those situation in the same efficient way?

Cheers.

EDIT: Sorry, didn't notice you already knew about string options, forget my answer here...

Cheers.

Just out of curiosity to see if this helps, can you try to render it in Bucket mode and see how it behaves?

Try with 17 samples per pass, 7 passes.

Cheers!

For us the thing is that up to certain level of noise static noise is less awkward, but when you reach certain level of quality static noise seems weird and random noise feels more like grain, so if you are going to let the frames to refine up to a good level of noise then random noise will feel better.

We always use random noise.

This may be a silly suggestion but try removing the bitmap node completely and loading the map in a new node, then check if it works better.
I say this because when moving to new releases there has been some times when the bitmaps were corrupted and I had to reload them.

Cheers.

All of our work is rendered with Corona, you can check it in our app for iOS (Bone-Studio in the app store) and you can check one of the firsts videos we did in our website (we have the app more updated than the website):

http://bone-studio.com/en/?portfolio=casacom-gigabit-pof

We also have a 3d animated character integrated for a tv series pilot episode, btu it's private yet, I'm willing to share it but I don't have green light yet.
So far not a single problem rendering complex 3d animations with motion blur and dof in Corona, it has been a lot more stable than the old mental ray or iRay, the only advice I will give you is to try to cache as much as possible as alembic or point cache, this will make your renders more stable, but I think this is a cross-platform advice, no matter your render engine :)

Cheers!

Adaptivity any time soon?

I have to render an animation, it's an interior scene and I think I could leverage Adaptivity for sure to speed up render times.

Cheers.

I have one box+subs and ona SaaS for the farm, but I want to migrate from SaaS to Box+Subs asap.

@Muadib If I'm right you cannot get up into the subscription again if you loose it, but also if I'm right you will be able to upgrade to Corona 2.0 when it's released and maybe in that case you will be able to jump into the subs wagon again, I'm not sure about that, but I think that is what I understood.

So if you leave subs you won't loose the ability to upgrade in the future, and you won't be stick with Corona 1.x, but of course you will have to pay for the upgrade (wich I think is perfectly normal)

In my case I choose Box+Subs always, I just haven't had the money to acquire the second box and I had to pay for SaaS (wich I don't like at all) but was the only way, I wish there were a rent-to-own, but hey, the current scheme is pretty fair (except for the inhability to add render nodes to box and the inhability to have this license floating... but those are minor things more or less we can deal with that and it's a matter of a different converstation :) )

Cheers!

Maybe is too much to ask but some zebras for overexposed and underexposed could be great, also an option to superpose one render element over the beauty render to check things, and finally the obvious option to save previous renders and have the ability to compare those renders between them.

Cheers.
