[Max] I need help! / Re: DR machines start and fail loop
« on: 2018-12-11, 16:25:42 »
Ok so again the same problem in DR. Machines are parsing scene then starting then again parsing scene and go red connection failed.

Worked before without any issues in the same scene before I upgraded to 3.0. I had RC 4 or 5 of version 3.0 before and never had this issue. The scene is not even taking a 4th of total ram of the machines which are more or less all running with 64gb of ram. All the pats are UNC and from a Server. I had this issue less then 2 weeks ago I was restarting nodes, scene trying it for 2 hours and then all of a sudden it started working. Now I am again on a deadline for the same images and again same problem... The only solution now seems to just start render by render on each machine...

I am in the same spot as you are. Got a 280 working fine nearly a year now on the 1950x but I am not sure if you can RMA the cooler if its working ok now or they are taking it RMA's without any questions?

Version 3.0 newest possible version. For some reason it just started working... Looking good so far fingers crossed got about 18 5k renders to render till the end of the day :) its gonna be tight!

In middle of a deadline for some reason DR is in a loop now I tried it from my workstation, tried it from a node as a backburner server job with dr for other slaves same thing. DR machines are green as soon as the render starts and then simultaneously start going red and green and red so they won't start. The scene is heavy around 1.8 gigs but I rendered the same scene without any adjustments last night from my workstation and all was working fine until this morning when I tried again and the problem started. I even cleaned the scene up got it down to 1.2 gigs and the problem persists.

I am sure its not a network problem since all was working fine less then 12 hours ago. There was no Win update in the past days so that is excluded as well... Anyone experiencing the same problems?

Go to the Asus Zenith motherboard official page and under compatability you can find the memory QVL list.

I am not sure you will be able to fit the 2990wx in your budget with 128gb ram since that is an imperative as you stated. You can go for the 2970wx though there still aren't any banchmarks of it on the corona benchmark page dunno why since its out for 2 weeks already. I myself would prefer going for the highest end cpu always and if you go with 64 gb ram you could get it and upgrade the ram later but since its an imperative then the next best option is the 24 core cpu. Good luck with you purchase!

Hardware / Re: Low memory issue - Config
« on: 2018-11-09, 13:09:11 »
I have some nodes running around with 32gb memory and they run just fine without reporting memory issues on 3ds max scenes where Corona reports issues on my workstation when it had 32gb ram. The workstation is just under a bigger memory load since you are running 3ds Max and probably a few other programs during your work. When I went for 64gb the reports stopped so I would suggest you to go with 64 and you can definitely keep your ram and use it for the node.

The moment your node start crying for more ram just add more but I am sure you won't have problems with it for a while. Nodes are just computers with a sole purpose of rendering free of hundreds of programs we usually have installed on our workstations so they are usually less stressed in terms of memory in 99% of cases...

The VRM cooler on the Asus mobo looks like a radiator lolz...

That is a crazy number of VRM phases... Will probably cost a leg and a small-size decent car :). To be honest TR2 seems like the best buy right now and I doubt Intel will put anything remotely close to competitive pricing...

Really sad to hear some people are still having problem with the 2990WX but I guess all will be ironed in the next few weeks, maybe months. Seems that the TR 2 launch has the same bad start as Ryzen when it was first introduced.
Juraj what time did you manage to get in corona render benchmark with the new machine?

Originally I had bunch of orders at 480 +/- euro from german e-shops, but it all proved to be bust. Local big shop got a copy for 580 so I grabbed that one. I believe this will be the "new" price from now on mostly.

https://www.kitguru.net/components/leo-waldock/msi-meg-x399-creation-the-best-motherboard-ever/

The best motherboard ever would be Aorus layout (4 dual-slot GPUs) + Aorus features (10gbe) + MSI hardware (19 phases), but right now knowing I will never put more than two GPUs inside, it's MSI.
But from the chart you can see if your intended overclock is 3.6 + 3.8 +/- , Aorus should be enough but I would still treasure the stability the additional phases bring to table (35 Degree C difference on VRM)

Lol at Zenith, 120 degree C at 3.8Ghz. Better install that tiny 4cm fan "kit". "Overclocker's dream board".

Who knows what X499 will bring.

I totally agree with you on this one. Would always go for the board with more phases but for me its still not available right now so I will probably wait until it gets out in the local shops or something even better shows up. I have my hopes in As Rock for this segment. Although I am not a big fan of them they always excelled at making boards capable for high overcloking.

Hardware / Re: Render Farm Specification Help
« on: 2018-09-11, 10:58:51 »
Hello, you haven't said in what environment you will use this "farm"? Are you a freelancer/single user or will there be more people accessing this farm like a studio environment?

From what you wrote I understand you work now on a Ryzen 1700? If you indeed are a single user/freelancer I would not suggest investing all your budget in building a rendering farm. If I was in your place I'd rather invest in a more powerful workstation since 90% of your time you will be rendering interactive and you will have more use of a powerful workstation + some nodes then your current machine + more nodes. With 10k depending on the market where you buy your stuff you could have 5k left for a 32 core 2990wx and  2 rendering nodes for the other 5k, for example 2x dual 24C Xeon Platinums from Ebay. You could even get 3 of those but then you would need to go for something less powerful as your main horse. Something like a 1950x/2950x even which is still more then double the performance of your current 1700 Ryzen pc.

On the other hand if you just want to invest this money in a farm then you could get 4x dual 24C Xeon Platinums with 32gb ram each or 3x with 64gb each. Again this is just pure speculation since I don't know where you buy your equipment and what are the prices in your country.

Side note for all those freelancers out there asking if they should build a rendering farm. For low-end rendering farm you need at least 15-20k$. For someone who is just starting that's a huge investment and I would always advise to build a good workstation first. If you are doing animation heavy work you would need even more then the 15-20k... Recently a friend of mine who is a freelancer told me about current online render farm service pricing and I was astonished how cheap they are now.
I won't mention any names since I am not promoting anyone but for all you out there who plan to invest in a farm take a look first on the online prices you won't believe how cheap they are lately.
All of a sudden the 15-20k you planed to invest can serve you well over 3-4 years of online rendering while your equipment value over that time span can go as low as 30% of the initial investment... So think about it well!

Looks great! I now have available to order the X399 Aorus Extreeme in Hungary and its 450 euros. It's such a tease but I will try to wait 2 more months more just to get a better picture of what is available and best to buy at the moment of purchase... Can't wait to see you Corona bench scores though!

I never said I was from Hungary I just said I buy stuff there since they have a bigger IT market and more exotic stuff :). I am from Serbia and since we are not in the EU I have to pay taxes for all the stuff I order via Ebay/Amazon that exceeds 50usd so lucky me...

@arqrenderz - search on ebay ES and you will find it.

@Radim Razzak - search on the supermicro site for your country maybe you can find a local re-seller in your country that might be cheaper then ebay or amazon and you have actual warrenty from a local place plus a possibility to get ram from them as well. I searched for the boards on ebay and amazon first the only available in Europe was in London and it costed 750 pounds without shipping not to mention the taxes my country would make me pay if I order. Finally found local re-seller on supermicro website and it costed 530 euros...
