But they are really good at announcing things, probably the best out there.
What was Octane Render Cloud again? :)

Thanks for explaining in detail, Juraj.

Using a BenQ BL3200 and an Eizo, both managed by Spyder 4.

What's your workflow? Or, what's the best workflow for this setup?

My saved render always look a little bit different than the one in the frame buffer (working with Octane & FStorm).
It does not look like a gamma problem, the difference seems too subtle for that - I'm using Gamma 2,2 and when saving the render "automatic" is checked.

The saved image has a little bit less contrast and colors are slightly different; overall it's less punchy.
I've looked several hours on the web but didn't find a solution. Is anyone else having this issue?

"Buffer" is a screenshot from the Frame Buffer in Max.
"Saved" is the saved render.

Make a folder on the desktop including a 3dsmax.ini backup and a shortcut to:
C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Autodesk\3dsmax\<version>\enu.
Just copy/paste it the .ini whenever something is wrong. Only a workaround but it works.

Have to agree with almost everything, Juraj - GPU rendering seemed so promising at the beginning. But you're very quick back to the ground of reality with more complex interiors taking quite some time even with a serious hardware setup. It's not the holy grail everyone was wating for. Also Corona is getting better each day ;)

Otoy did a great job in screwing Octane completely up; features nobody ever requested, confusing marketing (thinking about the V3 presentation video...omg), wired decisions.
Releasing new versions while breaking stuff that has worked before; the 3ds max plugin is filled with test releases and unstable versions.
They have hired some good guys at the forums though, professionally playing along customers, delaying promised updates/features - they're doing a remarkable job with this.
I think GPU rendering could have been much further if developed the right way...

You are also right about the cons for FStorm but please consider that it's a very young engine; first release was only six months ago and it's still in alpha stage. So hopefully all this will be added at some point.
Adaptive sampling is great feature though, cutting down render times quite a bit. I hope Andrey will add an integrated noise reduction solution one day - assuming everything works out good for him with the lawsuit.

Here's the link to the thread:
http://www.fstormrender.com/forum/forum/off-topic/1703-andrey-kozlov-vs-otoy

Funny to see that Otoy is claiming that the 3ds max Environment Tab belongs to their product - the really have no idea what they're doing.
I don't think it's a good idea to publish everything in a public forum though. Hope this turns out well for Andrey (Karba), he's a good guy.

Simple but great!
What did you use for lighting? Sun or HDRI (which one?)?

Does Octane ? I know only for sure that Redshift does, which is technically pretty revolutionary renderer. With that said, Out-of-Core almost always come with performance hit. It's not exactly like harddrive swapping, but neither a magic bullet solution.
Yes, it does. But you can only use it for textures, not geometry.
And yes, it comes with a little performance loss.

Looks great!
This guy is making some nice gif's as well:

Impressive, as always!
Can you say a little bit more about render times and resolution?

Sorry, a little bit off-topic.
I see you're still working with Octane; what is your oppinion today (development, support...) after your first encounter a few years back? Do you plan to release a scene for Octane? The one from your blog, maybe?
With four decent gpu's I'm quite happy with the software. However, the progress for the plugins is problematic and slow; seems like with every new release new bugs appear.

Looks great!
Can you tell us a little bit more about hardware, resolution and rendertimes for the still images?

Somehow you always forget to give some credits:

To add fuel to the fire...
Just kidding, I think Corona is a nice engine and is greatly integrated into Max (you can't say this for Octane) ;)
Here's a 4k 10 minute Octane render with 2 x 980 Ti and 1 x Titan Z
(The 980 Ti is a nice card for anyone considering Octane)
