I thought I would share my recent entry into the CGMood.com The Autumn Colors competition.

A few things I would of changed looking back but I ran out of time with the deadline and client work! I thought I would try out a different style to my normal stuff and create something with more atmosphere and not so much photo real.

Thanks for looking! happy to answer any questions.

General CG Discussion / Complete system crash

Hi.

I'm having a really annoying problem at the moment and im not sure if its a hardware or software issue. I just cant think of anything to solve it so I thought I would see if anyone else on here can help guide me in the right direction. posted in AREA but have not got a reply...

So basically my PC completely shuts down when I do certain things in 3DSMAX, the screens go black but the pc fans are still running/ motherboard is still on. No matter what I do I cant get it to start/shut down unless I press the hard restart button on the motherboard.

I originally thought it was a graphics card issue but I ran some benchmarks to test it on full load and its working fine. This is with Max 2019, and I have just installed 2018 and I have had the same issue.

example one, scrubbing the timeline with an animated noise modifier on an object.
example two, manually stopping a corona render frame buffer (only occassionally)

latest servce packs on both installs
new pc build- few weeks old
threadripper 2990wx
msi meg x399 creation (beta bios E7B92AMS.129) im going to try and go back to E7B92AMS.127
64gb flare x ram
msi duke 1080ti
windows 10 pro

New installs in the last weel
Corona 3
Grow FX
Marvolous Designer.

Is there some sort of admin access issue with 3dsmax?

Any help would be really appreciated

Thanks!

Hardware / Graphics card for new build
« on: 2018-10-30, 16:09:09 »
HI
I'm about the order the last part for my new workstation and im a bit unsure what graphics card would be best, the budget is roughly £500 to £650.

With that budget I can get either a 2070 or a 'budget' 1080ti, The TI has better performance/higher memory but the 2070 is current gen, has the RTX cores and whatever potential improvements that will bring (are there any?) and is about £100 cheaper.

I'm guessing the Max viewport will be pretty much the same on both cards? I'm using a 4gb 770 at the moment so anything will be an improvement to be fair! Im just using Corona but I would like to start trying out some GPU rendering in the future. I also use photoshop, after effects, fusion...the usual stuff.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks

hi,

I just wanted to share a new project that I have finished recently.
It's a remake of my first archviz image I did 4 years ago. I thought it would be nice to go back and recreate it to see how I have improved over the years and I also did some interiors for it this time around.

Thanks for having a look.

Hi,

I have just finished a little project I have been doing in my spare time and thought I would share it.

I wanted to keep it simple and create a corner of a room and come up with some different styles/interior design that I wouldnt normally get to do with day to day client work. My mind went a bit blank after 5 but I had lots of fun doing it and I might add to it in the future if i come up with some more ideas.

I used 3dsmax and Corona if anyone is interested, Comments are more than welcome!
Thanks,
James

I wanted to try something a bit different so I decided to create a swimming pool as its something that I don’t do very often and it was also a good project to test out Corona. I found being able to adjust the lighting in Corona’s 1.6 new light mixer then paste the settings back into the scene is a really great feature that saves a lot of time when playing around with lighting. Overall I’m really impressed with the latest release.

Hi, First post and I have just started to use Corona,  Day to day at work I use vray but this will now be my home renderer.
I did a little personal project to get to grips with it and I'm really impressed with corona! Great work guys, I wished I had started using it along time ago.
