[Max] Bug Reporting / error saving zdepth
« on: 2021-02-19, 12:31:46 »
Hi,

I recently rendered out a few animations and was testing out file formats to save and I had some errors when trying to save TGA or PNG.

The TGA was sent through backburner and PNG rendered straight from the scene.
They saved out the 1st frame elements but failed once it got to the zdepth, which in turned stopped the rendering of the 2nd frame. I wondered if it was something to do with the alpha settings in the file settings? Or if it's an error with my instal and I just need to do a reinstall?

I ended up saving as a TIFF which worked fine but it would be good to know the cause in case I have to save them out in the future.

Thanks

Just out of curiosity - why3950x, why not 5950x?

Ah sorry I wrote down the wrong name, will correct. Thanks for picking that up

Such a shame it looks like there won't be a new TR anytime soon, Looks like they have too much TRpro stock that they need to shift.

How are people finding the Ryzen 5950x to work with? I was looking into buying a new TR machine but the thought of buying a year old chip is putting me off- silly I know but when you're paying £4k just for the cpu...

So I'm thinking about building a 5950x to work on. Vray benchmark seems fairly close to my current 2990wx which is crazy and it should be faster for actual work and have my TR 2990wx as a node,  then purchase a new TR when they come out...next year?

Hi All,
I just finished a little animation and thought I would share, it's been many years since I have done one but it was really fun to have a play around again and make a change from the usual stills.
Happy to answer any questions,
Thanks!

Honestly the modeling here is really nice and the chair in the second image is very pretty. +1

The stucco material that features prominently in these images, where does it come from?

Also, of course, what is the lighting scenario?

Thanks! The material is just a composite of a few wall textures I have (diffuse) and a bump and displacement. The lighting is super simple and is just a corona sun and sky, that is my go to for any day shots. I like that you have a bit more control over the sun direct compared to a hdri.

Great job! the tour is very effective. I toyed with the idea of using Layama but haven't had the right project to use it on. Have one in the works though that I think could be ideal so will maybe do it for that.
I love Animation, VR and tech etc, but I'll always be a sucker for beautiful still images, which you have many! Thanks for sharing.
Thank you! I had been wanting to try out a walkthrough for a while but I felt the click and jump movement you typically get is a bit jarring. I'm really impressed with Layama so would highly recommend it, the only downside is you cant add any interactivity to it such as viewing videos or being able to click through to a link that some clients might want.

As always James, these are outstanding. 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Thank you, much appreciated!

Thanks Philip! I'm using motiva layama to deal with the walk through part, I'm really impressed with how straight forward it was and its just a one off payment. It sorts out all the render settings in Max as well. The end resolution is 12,000x2048 and I ended up doing 16 renders for the space, although think I could of got away with doing less.

Hi Everyone,

I have been working on a proof of concept to offer an interactive walk through of a 3D space
as an alternative to long walk through animations that client typically ask for
(which I hate). I have used Layama to put it together which I think came out well.

Theres also some stills to go along with it for my social media.

Thanks for the nice comments! The only problem now is not having any other portfolio ideas to occupy my time with...

Some of the loveliest and natural lighting I've seen in a while, would you mind sharing a little breakdown on how you achieve it?

Thank you!
The lighting is super basic, for the day shots its a Corona sun and sky and the evening is a HDRI from NoEmotion.

I tend to go between different views adjusting all the object materials with colour corrects until everything starts to sit nicely together. I find that makes a big difference and not so much the lighting setup

Hey everyone,

Finally managed to finish a new portfolio project during this Lock-down and thought I would share it with everyone

I came across the architecture of Irving Gill during my travels in America walking past Horatio Court (completely by accident) and thought it would be fun to try and re-create and try to capturing the "LA vibe".

Thanks for looking!

Hardware / Re: BenQ PD3200Q DesignVue 32 inch?

I bought the PD2700U a few months ago to replace my old monitor (also benq) and it really is a great monitor for the price, would highly recommend.

I have also noticed some serious lag recently especially when I stop a render, my whole system seems to freeze until 3dsmax/Corona has completed what it needs to do. Maybe it's something to do with Corona 5? (I also have the 2990wx)

Thanks for the replies, I actually did have the latest bios (7B92v13) but I re-installed it anyway and it seems windows has now updated, Strange but at least its worked. On a similar note its saying that I'm up to date on windows pro build 1803 but I thought there was a 1903 update?

I'm not actually sure if I'm on the latest motherboard bios, the meg creation was a bit unstable when it came out so I just stuck to the bios that was stable on my system. I will have a check and update it and also disconnect all usb devices. Thanks for replying! fingers crossed its that

Hardware / Windows 10 pro update failing
« on: 2019-11-18, 17:10:41 »
Sorry I know this is not specifically a hardware question but I thought it was the best place to ask.

I have windows 10 pro and for a few months now I have been unable to install any updates, during the update it blue screens then turns off, I then have to power up the computer twice and on the third time it reverts the the previous version and I can carry on as normal. I have been pausing updates but the last few days it keeps doing it while rendering at night which is super annoying...

I tried talking to the microsoft help center last time and they were not helpful at all and basically said to wait until the 1903 update pops up asking to be installed. I just wondered if anyone here had issues installing the updates on windows pro? below are the failed ones in question.

Feature update to Windows 10, version 1903
Feature update to Windows 10, version 1809 amd64 2019-04
cumulative update for Windows 10 version 1809 for x64-based system (KB4525237)

Thanks
