News / Re: Corona Renderer 1.7 for 3ds Max released!
« on: 2017-10-26, 14:41:32 »
DR seems to be broken in final release of 1.7, worked fine in RC10 and earlier release candidates - now it just goes round in a loop without ever joining the render...

DrLog attached

Edit - Rolled back to RC10 and DR is working fine. Anyone else having DR issues with 1.7 final release?
Can you gather all DR logs - https://coronarenderer.freshdesk.com/support/solutions/articles/12000002065
And then contact us using https://coronarenderer.freshdesk.com/support/tickets/new

I should be able to reinstall 1.7 final release early next week, until then I'll have to stay on RC10 as I have deadlines looming. Happy to supply the logs once I get back to having the DR issue. I only grabbed the DrLog this time around

Opening existing scenes is becoming a real chore with 1.7 RC9.

I have a 50mb Max file which opened in around 30 seconds with RC8, currently on 16 mins waiting for the same scene to open in RC9.

Tried other files and they are also taking an age to open. Reluctant to merge this scene into an empty max file and start my setup again but it would certainly be quicker if I did.

edit - It's also worth mentioning that the file appears to be hung and is not actually close to opening - Windows memory for this scene is static at around 1GB and has not moved in the 18 mins I have been waiting for the file to open - definitely something in RC9 that isn't playing nicely

Can somebody please confirm that 1.7 files can now be opened in 1.6.3?

I'm guessing I will need to install 1.7 RC8 first, save the file and then install 1.6.3 again?

Having too many issues with 1.7 that I haven't had to deal with in ages, since I moved over to Corona in fact. There is nothing worthwhile in 1.7 which would convince me to keep putting up with these issues so I will be reverting back to 1.6 which was so much more reliable.

Superb work as always!

Corona Camera seems very promising but I have noticed a few issues, some of which are already mentioned above.

One major issue I have noticed when using the Corona Camera is that IR stops completely when my mouse is not on/in the vfb window. If I am hovering over a viewport then IR does not work (it's as though I have chosen to cancel/stop interactive rendering). IR then jumps back into life (restarts) when I hover over the VFB again. Deleted the Corona Camera and this issue goes away (IR behaves normally again).

Max 2016 SP4

Edit - This only happens when looking through the Corona Camera, switching to Physical Cam or perspective view returns IR to it's normal behaviour

Hi Jens,

The script you are looking for is called 'Overscan'

*Sorry - I'm an idiot, I just noticed you've already tried this*

I really should learn to read all of a thread before replying ;)

That makes sense and I kind of suspected it may be to do with engine improvements - good to know, I'm long overdue an upgrade to 64gb ram anyway. Thanks nkilar

I recently had a large scene requiring all of my available memory to render (32gb DDR4).

This scene has been rendered successfully multiple times over the past few weeks using 1.6 (no hotfix)

After installing Hotfix 2, the scene no longer renders within memory and actually crashes 3ds max without warning.

I've since reinstalled 1.6 and can render this scene again without any crashes.

Has anyone else noticed a higher memory usage since installing either HF1 or HF2?

Thanks Juraj,

I have found myself using normal maps and displaced mesh modifier a lot more since the switch to Corona. As you mentioned it's not a perfect solution but better than nothing I guess. There is a scene I am currently working on which features a shot of a path leading up to a house, the camera is about 30cm above the path and the shot is intending to show the 'stamped' pattern in the concrete - fair to say that my bank balance will be taking a hit on additional room very soon ;)

I'm surprised that Memory optimization (lower memory usage in 3ds Max; not out-of-core) is currently in last place in the most wanted features poll (1% of the vote?!) - I have a constant battle to render final images of around 6K. Upgrading all machines from 32gb to 64gb would be the most immediate solution but this is going to set me back a few thousand £'s and from what Juraj mentioned it may not fix my issues completely.

Typical scenes include scattered grass, gravel and proxied trees (Corona Scatter), probably in the region of 25-30mil polys. It seems to get mentioned a lot and for good reason, but Vray's use of RAM makes for painless rendering of similar scenes and it's the only thing that bugs me about Corona.

Also, displacement is no longer an option for me unless I am rendering tiny preview images - when I'm at full resolution it's just not possible to have anything displaced which really affects the quality of my output at times.

I'm using the latest daily build (03-06-17) and just tried to add my 2nd PC into the render as I always do.

The DRServer version hasn't updated and still shows 1.5 (hotfix 2), this seems to be preventing my workstation from finding the node on the network - before installing the daily build it found the node without any issue.

Any ideas, should the DR server version update with every install?

Thanks

UPDATE - A quick reinstall fixed the issue and updated the DR server version, all working fine. New DR server window looks much better too!

[Max] General Discussion / Re: REBUS RenderFarm

.Cexr output is vital in my workflow as is the lightmixer element. I have a ridiculous amount of images to render and my only concern is not being able to make use of these features when submitting to Rebus.

Any idea how long it might take to implement .cexr output so I can consider Rebus for future projects?

I know this is an old thread/request but I would very much like to see an option for a region zoom in the interactive render window, Vray calls it 'Real zoom'
