Hi all, sorry for such a basic question but I haven't been able to figure it out. Using Cinema 4D, in the Multi-Pass settings window, what function does the "Filter" check box next to the "Enable" checkbox perform?

Applies the anti-aliasing filter, as set in the Image Filter section of the Frame Buffer Settings, to the pass (or not). Attached image, filter enabled is on the left, filter disabled on the right. Sometimes for masks, a hard non-antialiased edge is preferred.
