[Max] I need help! / Re: Vector Displacement Map Missing
« on: 2018-02-19, 16:58:00 »
24 Gb may not be enough, certainly when displacement is used as it can consume a lot of memory.

There is some info on https://coronarenderer.freshdesk.com/support/solutions/articles/5000675894-there-is-not-enough-system-memory-to-process-displacement-at-current-settings-stopping-render- and https://coronarenderer.freshdesk.com/support/solutions/articles/12000023310-i-am-getting-a-sudden-rise-in-ram-usage-

Mostly, be sure to be using Screen size rather than World size if possible. If using World size, be sparing with it :) You can try increasing the Screen size to reduce memory needs. Be sure to use Displacement for "large" features, but bump mapping for "small details". Other tips are on the pages linked above. I hope something here helps!

[C4D] General Discussion / Re: Noisy Volume Light
« on: 2018-02-19, 16:29:44 »
They will generally be noisier and take longer to clean up than scenes that don't use volumetrics. Also, high directionality lights can have more noise than one with lower directionality, but high directionality may be needed for the light in volumetrics depending on the look you are going for so this could be unavoidable and just need more passes. You could also look into whether Single bounce only was checked and whether you can use that, as that will speed things up greatly (may take as many passes to get rid of noise, not sure on that, but the passes will be faster at least :) )

A higher GI vs AA balance will likely help, since it makes GI and light noise clean up faster (at the expense of anti-aliasing). Denoising will help. You could also look into using Sharpening and Blurring too.

Interesting, they don't show up in IR.

(The PV history would also be larger if you are storing multipass renders, such as using LightMix etc., as it would be storing a copy of each of those for each one entry in the history)

Could be because every time IR is started, it adds a new image to the PV history, filling up the PV much faster than you might normally fill it up. You could find where C4D is storing the Cache files, and check how large they are. And you could try clearing out the PV history regularly to see if that is where the majority of the cache is coming from. I was always surprised to see just how much history the PV was storing :) There are probably settings for that too, to control how much history it will store.

Rolled back to Corona 1.7.3 here and the Vector Displacement does disappear, unless Show Incompatible is checked, in which case it reappears for me (previously, I had Corona 2 DB Feb 8th installed)

Does the map show up with other render engines selected?

Yep that's the one, as it's possible to set a limit there which could cause it to fill up. How much space is it taking up on the HD when you get the message?

Not sure at this point if it's just a C4D thing (e.g. the images in the PV use up the Cache) rather than something Corona specific - will leave it to the developers to ask the right questions about that :) But clearing the C4D cache comes up as a question a fair bit (with a Google search) irrespective of render engine used.

What version of Corona are you using? I have 3ds Max 2018, and the Vector Displacement shows, even without checking view incompatible.

What is your hard drive limit set to for the cache (the settings in C4D)?

Just to pin it down, not clipped for me, Max 2018, Win 10, 1920 x 1080, Corona 2 DB Feb 8th

For the Env slot, don't drop in the Light Material, just the Corona Bitmap straight into the Max Environment slot (sorry, had my C4D thinking cap on there, which has a bit of a different approach to adding an HDRI!)

Lots of examples on the YouTube tutorial channel, e.g. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QAV4Wedy8u4

The explanation is on this page:
https://coronarenderer.freshdesk.com/support/solutions/articles/5000516180-known-bugs-and-limitations

The part that reads :
"Black highlights":
-Black reflection of sunlight may be visible on materials with glossiness lower than 1, if sunlight is passing through a Corona Light material with "emit light" option disabled

To avoid this in this case, you could just place the CoronaLight material in the Environment slot (or add it to the Reflections override) instead of using geometry to place the environment on.

https://corona-renderer.com/upload is usually best, just add a link to the forum thread when uploading so we know what issue it relates to :)

Thanks!

Aha yes there it was - https://forum.corona-renderer.com/index.php?topic=16521.0

And indeed, fixed in the Daily Build from 2017-12-18
