[Max] I need help! / Re: IR freezing
« on: 2024-03-21, 12:27:44 »
Not heard of this before, we'd need info, at very least Max version and Corona version, but also is this every scene or a particular one? Any recent updates to Max, Corona, or Windows? Also useful would be a scene file where this happens to you, which can be sent privately via ticket at https://support.chaos.com/requests/new (include a link to this forum post so we can connect the dots, ty!)

Still not apples to apples, as you would have had to pay for Phoenix, Scans, and Player separately back in 2022 if you are comparing to Premium, or you'd have to look at Solo pricing today. And as noted, few people use render nodes - maybe a higher percentage here on the forums where users are more dedicated and "hardcore", but usage and purchase stats show nodes are not used by the majority; so these are not comparisons across the board for every user and most people do not see anything close to this kind of price change.

There shouldn't be an 88% price increase except in one particular scenario. This figure would only be true in one specific case - you once had Corona 7 with 3 free render nodes, which you cancelled, and now you return, as the render nodes are no longer free. (But they did stay free if you did not cancel your license and it's been running since before Corona 8).

Also as a note even then most of that price increase would have been true 2 years ago with the release of Corona 8, when free render nodes were discontinued. The difference between Corona + 2 render nodes in 2022 and Corona + 2 render nodes in 2024 with the latest price change is also nowhere near an 88% price increase.

So most users are not seeing anything near as dramatic as an 88% price increase.

EDIT - also this is only true if you choose Premium, which includes Phoenix and more, which were not included in the Corona 7 and earlier licenses and had to be purchased separately. So the 88% increase is not comparing apples to apples. There is still the Solo license, which is much more like what the old Corona 7 and earlier licenses were.

[C4D] I need help! / Re: Scene Converter Details

It will vary depending on the material, and even the settings in the material, as to how close a look can be obtained :) Also the conversions are still being improved at this time, so would be best to have a look after the code freeze / final release, as things should still be getting better here and there.

The Metalness options are covered in https://docs.chaos.com/display/CRMAX/Corona+Converter (similar documentation should follow for C4D I believe). Basically it's have Corona make an educated guess on whether it should be a Metal material, or have it always create a Metal material, or never create a Metal material. Use Auto unless you find your plants and grass are turning into metals, in which case use never which is No Metal (usually there are less metals in a scene and so easier to manually go through and adjust those after conversion). Unfortunately many pre-Physical Material materials were set up with unfeasibly high IORs for instance, which should only happen on metals, so may be interpreted by Corona as metal during conversion.

I haven't tried the second, I'd say that either it converts the selected shaders, or it converts all shaders in select objects, letting you choose whether to select objects as a whole and convert everything on them, or to select specific shaders that you want to convert.

There will be no support for Chaos Cloud Rendering (hence the archiving). There will be support for Chaos Cloud Collaboration, though - we have yet to see if that can be considered for 12 or not, depending on the progress of the work on the VFB.

Well, a wall is different as it is not a volumetric object but a solid one, so you clip it to hide it (else you see nothing as you are inside a solid object :) ). But for being inside water, glass, smoke, fire, etc. you don't need to clip them away because you can still see through them by the correct amount depending on the nature of the volume.

8
You don't mention which version of Corona - if 10 or later though, a camera knows when it is inside a water volume and when not. Is your water a cube? My guess is that the clipping is removing the "end of the water" ie it is clipping away the face of the cube that would represent where the water material should stop and air / glass begin, and so the camera now sees the water as continuing for an infinite distance as if the whole scene was underwater, as the rays cast from the camera never hit a surface that defines the end of the water it is inside.

If that is the case, the only option I can think of is not to use clipping - what are you are aiming to achieve from the clipping btw?

Given that this is material creation, as that's what the Corona Node Editor does, then that's the category where you'll find info on it (so, not about nodes, but about materials :) ). e.g.
list=PLt4UrWcQaAX__vW6okH3WAmwNdwy7Q51n&pp=gAQBiAQB is the playlist for C4D that goes through using the Physical Material in detail. Anything else on our channel that looks into material creation will also be showcased using our Node Material Editor, too. Hope this helps some!

Rolling shutter? ;)

See that David Turfitt whisky bottle in another thread about labels with thickness :) That's all C4D and totally on a par with anything from Max (well, actually it's the best bottle renderings from any tool that I've seen, but there is some archviz work with Corona from Max that lives up to similarly awesome quality).

There are indeed many more Max users, and they often have much longer careers in 3D, so that would be the cause of any apparent "difference in quality".

Ah the new ultimate in minimalist interfaces! We figured everyone had it all memorized by now so that you could just use it like  touch typing.... just kidding, there is a bug here (for me the toolbar becomes text and not icons), ought to be a fix in the next daily.

13
BTW please specify Corona version, as different people mean different things by "latest" - it could mean the latest daily build, or it could mean the latest Hotfix of an official release. Also, sometimes people think theirs is the latest but e.g. missed a hotfix or new daily coming out :)

Creating or selecting a corona camera crashes 3dsmax 2024 with daily march 5

"Create Corona Camera from view" works, but I can confirm that using the "Create Corona Camera" from the toolbar does indeed cause a crash, even in my basic starter scene. BTW with crashes minidumps are always useful, info on how to find it is here https://support.chaos.com/hc/en-us/articles/4649117083409-How-to-report-issues-3ds-Max
