I have had times when I get many crashes (posted about that) when I use the Interactive Rendering or Viewport. Like Stefan, usually when drag-copy an object. Then, for no reason, it will run super stable for days on end. Right now, I'm on v9 release and I did have a day or two when I had crashes (no dumps or crash file) at first, but mostly I've been very stable since then.

Maybe it's because I'm not on an M1 yet. Still running a 2017 iMac Pro and Monterey.

[C4D] General Discussion / Re: Render animation flicker!
« on: 2022-11-08, 22:42:54 »
@Designcoyote1 Now that is interesting. I'll have to look into that the next time I have a flicker problem. Also, I believe @TomG once told me that it is better to use a set number of passes for animation since some frames might need fewer or more passes than others using noise, thus creating a slight difference in frames. This is usually only visible when you watch it back in real time.

@Stefan-L Yes, BUT if your connection is out unexpectedly, then you are stuck with using Blender I guess. Even if you can use your phone to edit you settings, your PC won't know you've borrowed anything. In theory, you should be able to use your phone's hotspot (tethering) function so your PC can get to the web that way. I wasn't able to get it working, but in theory...

Seems to work for me on Mac C4D r25 and Corona 9. Maybe you didn't select the Multi-pass save section?

How do the other companies handle this issue?

[C4D] Bug Reporting / Problems with Takes
« on: 2022-11-05, 00:28:47 »
I'm not certain this is just a v9 issue or not, since I haven't used the Take system in a bit.

If the Corona preferences are set to always use the VFB, the command Render Marked Takes doesn't seem to work. It seems to be rendering somewhere because if I hit render again, it asks if I want to abort the current render. Not shows up on my drive however. When I switched the preferences back to C4D's Picture Viewer, everything worked as expected.

Also when rendering multiple takes, I keep getting the window indicating I am missing all or most of my textures, but nothing is actually missing. When I continue with the job, rendering is as expected with zero missing textures. Rendering the same scene with a simple Render to Picture Viewer gives me no warning and also renders as expected.

Not sure what's going on there.

[C4D] General Discussion / Re: Licensing question
« on: 2022-11-05, 00:21:13 »
Well, I just got burned by this annoying limitation. i was already working in C4D and Corona when there was a sizeable internet outage in my area. One thing I learned is that Corona checks with the sever for EVERYTHING! Even though I'm already logged in, if I clicked on a material to adjust it, 30-60 sec. of spinning then an error popped up saying the license could've be verified. Hit render, same thing. Interactive rendering, nope. Nothing. This is absolutely unacceptable! Not only could I not even set up a scene to render later, now I'm thinking how much this constant checking with the Chaos server is slowing my workflow down? I mean even a thumbnail needs verification? So stupid. I can't believe I'm even writing this.

I tried to connect via my phone's hotspot, but for whatever reason didn't seem to connect fully. Not Chaos' fault, but I shouldn't have to even try that considering I was already logged in. Why not just check the license when the app is launched? That would avoid so much headache, unless you have a crash, but at least it would help. Why on earth is Chaos thinking that someone stealing their software would have a proper license upon launch, then not have one after they start working? This doesn't make any sense.

Luckily, a major outage is not common for me, but I imagine it may be more common for some others out there or maybe they have a slow connection and all these unnecessary Chaos checks could actually slow them down. I did lose most of a day's work because of this.

And next year, I'll get to pay 45% more for this stupidity.

Yes, I'm annoyed in a big way unless someone can explain the necessity of all those server checks.

[Scatter] I need help! / Re: Corona Scatter and motion blur

Curious if this is the same limitation the C4D and Mograph had with Corona's blur years ago.

As far as I can see, my FairSaas price was $330 USD per seat. I have two with 3 nodes each. The new price is $478.80 each, an increase of 45.09%. That's quite a jump in one step. In business, being able to predict costs in advance is very important so you can prepare for the changes to come. In most cases, those changes are more gradual. If you are a freelancer, predicting those costs is CRITICAL for survival. I should be fine since I'm part of a larger group, but it's only 60 days notice of such an increase in cost. I assume I will need to explain this when the time comes and justify the extra cost. If this increase was introduced in 10% steps or so, I don't think this discussion would be happening.

We all love Corona and what it can do, but at some point, people will need to find more affordable alternatives that get similar results. And make no mistake, there are other choices if necessary. Many of these offer hybrid CPU/GPU. The discussion about the host application costs is an entirely different topic.

Blender     FREE Cycles X/Evee

Octane    $198 per year

Redshift    $264 per year

Arnold    $380 per year

Corona   $479 per year

Maxwell   $595 perpetual (not sure the details here)

Can we assume the mirrors are lined-up EXACTLY? The slightest angle difference can make a big difference.

My pleasure. Always looking for a way to give help back since I've taken so much over time.

I didn't know there were so many deep bits of info you could stamp on a render. This might be more of a suggestion, but I'm curious, is there a way to include the stamp info as metadata somehow? Obviously the render stamp feature makes the image unusable for final use, but some might find it useful for reference down the road if some of that info is saved in some other way. Maybe I'm imagining this being more useful than it is, but for a busy shop with a small farm can analyze that stuff for managing render nodes, upgrades, etc.

Render Stamp is where you can set this up. There are codes that populate certain information similar to Render Tokens in C4D.

Maybe this could help you. I ran that texture you posted through Adobe 3D Sampler. When using just a single image, it uses Ai to try and figure things out. Not the most accurate way, but maybe you can use some of these PBR files. Good luck and post back with the results.

I agree with FS-Marc. It's definitely the noise in the Glossiness channel. Makes sense you would see it more at an angle with the Fresnel effect in play. Here is an example of yours on the left, and the noise shader's scale set to .05%. This is only 15 passes with no denoiser.

On the creative side, I would look at your shadows. To my eye, they seem very dark for such a bright room in my opinion. If that's the look you want, then you're done, just to my eye they seem too dark.
