Alpha 6 
render region in Picture viewer....Crash
R17.053 win7 64 2x Xeon 5680, nvidia 6800, 24 gb ram
tried on two PCs..same Problem. also with different projects...

And Interactive Render Region is working wrong if you use Copy from IRR button in Render Output

A similar situation. Complete removal of the plug-in and reinstall with the PC did not help. It gives the same message now when installing older versions of alpha//

We cannot fix it without a way to reproduce. This is very old, so closing as resolved. If it happens again, feel free to write another bug report.
