Love the colour palette and simple composition.

Yeah portals will hopefully speed up some tricky interiors. What light have you used here?

Good tip re the clamping.

Juraj, do portals make a big difference in speed/quality? We don't have them in c4d version yet but I have encountered more severe issues trying to light a basement render only lit by a couple of sky lights. It wasn't very pass efficient and was struggling compared to vray. But I was thinking if only a small proportion of the rays are getting in then no wonder it's slow and I think that's where portals help, right?

Thanks

Yeah I was thinking of offering it more as a working/white model for my clients to show their clients the volumes and spaces of the design. I can imagine doing an all singing and dancing model would be a pain. Just need to find the time!

I've been looking into it too. Did a project with unreal2 (I think) years ago for uni. Baking everything in c4d and exporting into it, it was a massive faff.

Just to confirm it is possible to generate a user exe file that you can distribute to clients right? Previously you had to have the unreal game installed to run it.

[C4D] General Discussion / Editor render frame
« on: 2014-10-05, 12:09:31 »
Is it an easy fix to limit the render area in the editor window to the camera frame? Vray does this and it's really handy to see the same render area as the final picture viewer rather than the whole editor viewport. Also doesn't waste time rendering bits your not going to see.

It's probably already on the list but just incase it's not. Thanks

Can't you adjust this just using a c4d filter shader with the hdri loaded in?

[C4D] General Discussion / Re: Fan speed
« on: 2014-10-03, 13:48:15 »
Is that the same as the processes tab in task manager? If so that is 99%. Which is why it seems odd that the fans are deeming the cpu cool enough not to ramp up. Like I say if I switch to vray they soon ramp up to top speed with the same cpu 99% usage. Ram amount isn't an issue as have 32GB and its only taking about 3GB. The CPU is an i7 2.8GHz.

Thanks

[C4D] General Discussion / Fan speed

Thanks for the 1.1 update and the test scene, that's a really useful tool and showcase. One observation though relating to performance which has me stumped; its really blazingly quick and my task manager is reporting a good 99% CPU for C4D but my laptop fan only sounds about medium speed which doesnt make sense! So just switched it to vray for comparison and as expected the fans roar right up to top speed within a few seconds.

So is corona running as fast as it can or is there something a miss? I know i shouldnt be having issue with quiet fans!

Thanks again for the great update.

[C4D] General Discussion / Dirt / AO shader
« on: 2014-09-13, 21:52:28 »
I know I know, AO is sacrilege to some around these parts but is there any kind of dirt shader on its way / already available in the max version? Corona is just so fast and clean it's sometimes too clean!

Great alpha release, looking forward to seeing how this develops.

Cheers

Oh great I thought that was just a limitation with using some shaders as it effects some and not others. Also a problem with Paul Everett's random tiler shader, but does work which is promising.

Is it possible that we might see bercon shaders with the c4d version at some stage?

Cheers

Thanks for the clarification.

How is everyone changing exposure? Whatever I do in the corona camera tag or the global camera options the exposure is always blown out with corona sun and or sky.

EDIT: Ah the EV in the global settings is that right?

That's great thanks. Appreciate you might have to remain tight lipped about specifics. Looking forward to having a play, could be nice to go back to basics with a limited feature set.

Thanks for the info Rafael. Really looking forward to giving Corona a spin when we get the C4D public beta. Can you tell us how feature rich the current beta is compared to the MAX version? There is hardly any info on this in the forum. Im a long time vray user and Corona is the only other render engine I would be curious in trying. The quality of light / shadow and materials looks excellent. Throw in fast progressive rendering and its a very interesting proposition.
