Hi,

Since Blender with Corona supports only mesh lights, how can one have a mesh light that can light objects but does not cast shadow? You would need the Gi from the mesh for it to light other objects in the rayswitch material but that also means it would cast shadows. In 3dsmax, native lights don't cast shadows, any idea how this can work with Blender and corona?

EDIT: No worries, answer can be found here:

Chaos Corona for Blender / Scene object node- Add groups?
« on: 2017-06-17, 23:59:40 »
Hi,

Is there a way one can group some objects in the scene and select them to be added in the object scene node because it's gonna be cumbersome to add each object one by one especially if they are a lot of assets.

Great work so far. :-)

Chaos Corona for Blender / Corona with Blender Questions.
« on: 2017-05-25, 02:27:25 »
I have some questions about corona with Blender that I want to clarify:

Can Corona with Blender be used to render out animations using online Render farms like rebusfarm?
I can't view textures in the viewport even when scaling the textures. Does this work with materials in the node editor/ material tab?
Can renders be stopped and resumed?

Off-Topic / Ronen Bekerman forums-registration?
« on: 2017-01-07, 00:41:50 »
Hi all, happy new year :0
For the past one month, I have been having issues registering at the forums at ronen bekerman (awesome site btw). After registration, I didn't get a verification sent to my mail. I have tried sending a message to the forum webmaster through support citing registration problem twice. I am a registered user but cannot create a new thread, or post on there. I don't know if there is any other way to contact any of the forum mods since I cannot post there or message.

I wanted to ask if anyone has had this problem before and how they went about it? :) I don't know if this is the appropriate place to post this but since a lot of us here do archviz. I wanted to ask.

Appreciate any help or advice :)

Thanks

I was wondering if we can have a light hearted thread where we can add our animations/ cinematics that inspire us, looks breathtaking, cool or interesting, innovative or was able to achieve something on technical/ technology grounds and also for us to know about if we may not have heard of them before.

Here are some of mine just to name a few-

So what re your favourite cg animations/cinematics? Pls feel free to add Making of or Behind the scenes footage as well.

Gallery / Hackney Shed
« on: 2016-09-20, 03:42:50 »
Hello everyone :)

My latest work. This is my 3d rendition of the Hackney Shed designed by Office Sian Architecture.

I used only 3dsmax and Corona A6 for this piece. Textures are all handpainted and this is the raw render with no post processing done. No hdr image. The books are also handpainted using Viewport Canvas as well as the text on them (Had to come up with a workflow using the Spline Text tool and the Viewport canvas brush to paint text textures as Viewport Canvas does not have a Text tool in 3dsmax 2014).

[Max] I need help! / [Solved] Devel/Debug Settings
« on: 2016-06-12, 15:55:26 »
I am finding the default settings for Corona a little off so I am looking into tweaking it further for what I am trying to do. Unfortunately, the settings/parameters of the devel/debug don't give a description or tip of how they work when a mouse is hovered over them like the production settings. I am interested in the devel/debug settings for Corona A6.

Is there anywhere where one can get the description of the parameters?

Has anyone seen the screens for this upcoming animation movie by Square Enix:

Pics from neogaf

Short clips showing animation from the film with Japanese voice over work. The lipsynching animation was originally done in English.
feature=youtu.be

The visuals are really almost life-like. I applaud Square Enix for taking this bold step. I am guessing a frame must have taken a lot of time to render. Imagine characters like this in an archviz animation. It would be super. :).

I am wondering if the characters were originally modelled and textured by artists or they were scanned using real life people. Would be cool to see the making of and publications of how the technical challenges were solved and limitations were dealt with during the project. Square Enix has always raised the bar when it comes to CGI films. I remember Final Fantasy-The Spirits within and what they were trying to do with it. Sadly, back then there were a lot of limitations involving workflow, software and hardware. It is amazing how far 3d cg has come.
Still trying to find out what renderer is being used for the movie.

Haven't tried out Blender in quite a while.(2 years)

Decided to create food assets for archviz and re-visit Blender.

This is a small scene by me using only Blender.I handpainted all the textures (except for baked normal maps for the smaller cakes & meatpie) using Blender's excellent texturing tools. This is the raw render straight out of Blender using Cycles with no post process work done. No photo textures were used. No HDR image.

I would have to say a lot of improvements have been made to this software and Cycles is quite powerful. I still prefer 3dsmax but handpainting textures in Blender is way better and easier imo.

EDIT: Will be redoing the strawberries.  Will repost images later. Thanks

Hi,
There is a workflow I am currently experimenting on for my latest work. I was wondering if you have objects in your scene with not less than 15 materials for each object, would this increase rendertime drastically compared to just using textures and a single material? I am using Corona A6.

[Max] General Discussion / Corona scene baking?
« on: 2016-02-04, 20:00:58 »
I wanted to enquire if Corona still does not have the GI and texture baking feature or this is in the roadmap and how soon it will be added. I do feel this is an important feature as it will help speed up rendering animations such that you can bake models in your scene that are static.

Any update on this so far?

[Max] I need help! / Blurring Displacement map
« on: 2016-01-05, 01:17:03 »
For a while now, I noticed if u try bluring a displacement map connected to corona material. It does not reflect in the render  but it renders fine if a displacement modifier is used. I am using Corona A6. Is there a workaround for this?

Hi,

I just tried out corona with a previous version of Blender. Blender 2.73, released date- Jan 2015. It doesn't seem to work ( I get a checker pattern in the render window). I have followed all the instructions of how to install it. I understand Corona has been suspended for Blender at the moment. Does this mean the exporter and addon would not work with the early versions of Blender?

Btw, Happy new year guys. ;)

Off-Topic / Uncharted 4
« on: 2015-12-21, 22:25:28 »
I wonder if there are gamers here.

Anyone here dig the Uncharted games? I am looking forward to Uncharted 4. For me, the game graphics quality seems to be my main focus. Especially since it's realtime. Its no where near photorealism but the amount of work the devs have put into lighting, texturing and subtle animations is really commendable. I read somewhere that all textures for the game are handpainted.

It makes me wonder what they would be capable of when next gen consoles comes around.
