Found this problem:
Distance Textmap leaks color when used with cubes (or other shapes that have 90 degree tops) as shown on first image.
The problem easy solvable by applying "Chamfer" to "Distance from object" (as shown on 2nd image). However this leads to thousands of extra polygons on complex geometry.
Would be great if that could be solved.

Funny, I just had the problem and came up with the same solution.
+1 from me, would be good to not have to care about the geometry.

Thanks a lot!!!
Will it be in next version? (Please mention which one?)
-
it is already out in latest daily build
-
No it's not. This is version 1.6 (Still using Chamfer workaround)
Also is it possible to fix intersection (overlap) problem. As shown on second screenshot?
Basically selecting 2 meshes that overlap will exclude the mask.
-
Can confirm here, it's still very finicky. It's hard to say when a mesh will work fine but so far I always had to use Chamfer modifier on all meshes even if they were simple or nicely modeled.

Hi, i must say that this problem with distance texture is still present in 1.7.2 build
When we are using color inside checkbox we sometimes get some very strange artifacts on that texture.
We think that cause of this artifacts is sharp angles of geometry like in screenshot with Line1.
Box2 shown in screenshot is not so critical in our case but strange.

Last time I asked for fixes and improvements the answer was that it may not be possible to fix these problems. I'm also seeing issues regularly and sometimes it takes a lot of tweaking until you have a clean result, then when you transform the objects the issues come back... it's frustrating and I hope it would be possible to fix.
For the time being, using a chamfer modifier can help, but you may have to tweak the chamfer amount to get clean(er) results.

Just checking in, I have been following this issue for quite a while now.
Wanted to notify that this problem is still apparent in Corona 4.

Hi,
Are you using the fast or precise mode in the distance map?
Secondly, as this topic is in resolved bugs I'd recommend creating a new topic for this in bug reporting if the issue is still present with precise mode.
Before creating any bug reports please read the info in my signiture.
Thanks,
Rowan

Hi,
Yes I am currently using precise mode. It does improve from fast mode, but it still does create an overlapping gap where the inside material is not applied.
I have chamfer applied as well, but with precise mode, this no longer seems to effect.
I will submit a new bug report.

Hi,
Thank you for the information. Can you please send us your scene? Instructions on how to do this are in my signiture.
Thanks,
Rowan
