Work in Progress/Tests / Re: Corona C4D Tests

Beautiful shapes and light. First one is my favourite. Did you use corona lights or HDRI for this?

Very exciting, thanks for the update.

[Archive] Corona Scatter 2.0 / Re: Feature requests

Will this be multi platform? - i.e. work with c4d corona - when its released!

As a feature I like the sound of the edge detection / boolian to stop overspill.

Cheers

Some really amazing images. I love the quality of light and materials, very pleasing on the eye. Im a C4D user and cant wait for Corona to come to C4D. One thing I have noticed though; there does look to be some artifacts in some of the corners like I might expect from vray but I though corona generally handled this sort of thing pretty well - of which it does here but can still see them more here than usual. Render times seem great.

I see thanks. So there must be a lot of trial and error. No doubt that lack of documentation contributes to bugs too.

You would think the likes of Maxon would be best placed to do the plugin themselves inhouse and offer it as an extra bolt on. Its not like they would lose out on AR sales as that is built into the app anyway much to my annoyance as I've not touched it for years!

EDIT: Actually scratch that, between them and graphisoft they couldn't have made a bigger hash of the archicad importer if the tried! 3rd party one is much better

Looks great. I love the minimal settings, it looks like it should be really quick to set-up and tune materials. Thanks for the screen grab

Please forgive my naivety on this but I would be interested in finding out more about how renderers (like Corona) are ported to the likes of C4D. There is obviously a lot of work to do as we know from other renderers and the corona development time, but to us non programmers out there it can be frustrating having to wait as we can't always see exactly what the issues and hurdles are.

The way I imagine it is simply using C4D as a host that outputs geometry with material settings and mapping info out to corona which then does the magic and sends back the visual feedback image to C4D. Are the things like HDCache setting not just an integer spinner that wires directly into the integer slot in the corona engine? same with the camera and light info, can we not just export the location and dimensions of a c4d area light out along with the settings corona is asking for?

I appreciate there might be the odd quirk that Maxon might not have encoroprated in the process and vray has struggled to get fixes in the past from maxon but it all seems to be a lot harder and take a lot longer than I have accounted for. So I was wondering what the unseen hurdles are as that might shed some light?

Thanks

One of my favourite things about corona is its handling of white interiors. This is a great example of a bright clean and pure space witout blowouts or splotches or 'muddiness'. Great job. Looking forward to trying it with C4D eventually!

"why you guys are talking about values?"

I suppose the latest info was Keymaster saying he was getting close to considering kickstarter for Corona and that the c4d plugin is a student project which was started a year ago. The Maya plugin seems to be developing and the API is there so if we can offer a coder some cash to spend some time developing a C4D plugin then why not? But if folk only want to put in a few euro each then that could take a long time to get a decent pot.

I was thinking closer to 100-125 euro each towards the plugin development otherwise it would need a whole bunch of people straight off. I dont have a problem with the system octane has where you buy a main license and a license for the plugin. I think Thea also does that but I could be wrong.

I agree about monetising the plugin development in order to get a decent programmer on it full time. I have no problem with paying for corona and then a separate fee for the host app plugin if we can guarentee a quality plugin that gets updated quickly, and it should help take the pressure off you guys making the magic.

Yes really looking forward to seing this come to C4D. Im a long time Vray user and thought that I wouldn't even look at another renderer with vrays speed/quality ratio. But 9 out of 10 renders I see out of Corona are absolutely top notch, the quality of light, materials, internal tone mapping, speed and simplicity just seem to have the edge. What I love about vrayforc4d though is the ability to use both internal c4d shader and third party shaders as well as vray native ones (although only vray ones with DR - so I dont use DR!). Any chance we might be able to access the host app shaders with Corona at some stage? Looking forward to seeing this progress.
