It would be great to have texture that work like a VrayDistance map.

Agreed.  This would be very helpful for creating tire wear and oil stains on roads.

Yep, i too found DistanceTex priceless when using Vray. But once/if we get it in Corona, it will be desperately obvious we stole it from Vray. It was one hell of a great idea, i give them that :)

So I'm one of those guys who lived under a rock and never really used Vray - what's the distance map about?

I knew it will look as stolen feature, but we really needed one. May be dev team will even improve it some way to not look like it is completely stolen (like Dirt and many others may look like too).

to_pokoy: It is procedural that is measuring distance to listed objects and generates gradient by this distance between objects...

P.S.: I'm sorry for this external concurrent renderer link http://docs.chaosgroup.com/display/VRAY3/VRayDistanceTex#

Out of curiosity: what is it useful for other than spheres and boxes with gradients around or waves around coasts?

Neat... so you can generate texture details based on geometry? Seems very useful to me.

We're using it mostly as a dirt generator on streets, marking generator on streets etc.

Funny, I am just in a situation where this would save me a lot of work. I didn't even know I needed it.
'Stolen' or not, I don't care! ;)
