Glass Absorption Color showing through adjacent material
(1/1)
John.McWaters:
I have the default 'Architectural Glass' material that is being supported by some metal clips. The greenish hue of glass absorption color appears through the metal clips, causing their bottoms to appear greenish. I've attached an image of this and another with the glass hidden. I also confirmed that the glass is not clipping through the metal. There is actually a 1/64" gap between the metal and the glass. The metal doesn't have any sort of displacement either.
aaouviz:
I'd say it's a reflection - the glass is making the ground (beneath the camera) a bit greenish and this is being reflected in those metal clips.
romullus:
Are you sure that the glass colour bleeds through metal and not the metal is reflecting floor, or other surface that is tinted by the greenish light that's coming through that glass? You can do simple test to confirm if the latter is true - place a small plane close to the metal clips, assign that plane rayswitch material with direct slot left empty and all other slots populated with simple grey material. If the clips will turn grey, because they will be reflecting that plane and not the floor, you will know that everything's working as expected.

John.McWaters:
Well, I think y'all are right. I was initially confused because the ground/floor in the scene is oak and quite far from these metal clips, so it seemed unlikely that they would be reflecting a surface that was more white with the green absorption color.
I did place a plane below it with the ray-switch material setup as instructed, and they still had a greenish reflecting color.
maru:
This is weird. It's hard to tell from those images - are you sure that the metal clips are not sunk inside the glass? (so what we see is a thin layer of glass on top of the metal clips)
If it's still a problem for you, could you share the scene with us here? https://support.chaos.com/hc/en-us/requests/new
