[C4D] General Discussion / Re: Beta Tomorrow?
« on: 2017-10-03, 12:50:57 »
Thanks for the new version Nikola, the IR is great for new simple scenes and can only get better as the bugs get squashed!

I've uploaded a scene that worked flawlessly in the previous version and crashes immediately on hitting render with the new version.

I'm on Win10 running C4D R19

It uses the forester plugin but I'm not sure if that's relevant.

Cheers

click and hold the save button in the VFB and you get the CXR option

+1 for rounded edges

[C4D] Resolved Bugs / Re: VFB Stuttering
« on: 2017-09-26, 09:52:44 »
I agree the VFB seems to be some way behind the MAX version still with B & G particularly and the general responsiveness of it

I couldn't help noticing that sharpening was on in the videos shown, I've found that slows things down by 30 - 40% at least (I'm not on Xeon - i7 4930 here in win 10). My usual work flow is to leave everything unchecked in the VFB and then play with the image editor. I appreciate that doesn't help much with render regions but maybe the sharpening might have an effect that you can try disabling in the meantime?

+1 for this - I think Arnold has done a pretty solid implementation of the area light direction markers in the viewport

[C4D] General Discussion / Re: normal map
« on: 2017-09-14, 14:01:00 »
I've always found normal maps a bit confusing as to what type is being generated and whether I need to start flipping values, etc. How do you guys generate your normal maps? I've used Photoshop in the past but I'm not sure what format that creates?

Any other recommendations?

[C4D] Resolved Bugs / Re: VFB issue with Forester plugin
« on: 2017-09-05, 11:45:10 »
I just got my new serial for R19 and noticed on the download page there was a forester update on Aug 21st.

Forester for Cinema 4D 1.2.3 (August 21 2017)
Added High Resolution export with extended support for Corona, Indigo and Maxwell renderers

I've only done a couple of quick tests this morning but it seems to be rendering correctly to the VFB now so hopefully we can do away with the PV workaround.

Hardware / Re: Help with new Workstation config
« on: 2017-08-31, 14:35:32 »
might be worth seeing if you can get some 3200MHZ ram.  This review http://www.guru3d.com/articles_pages/amd_ryzen_threadripper_1950x_review,15.html seems to have got one of the best Cinebench and corona benchmark speeds at a @4GHZ overclock.

I'm hoping to buy a similar workstation soon so would be interested to know how you get on, I'm holding out for a wide choice of coolers at the moment and would prefer a liquid cooler.

thanks, a very handy little plugin

[Max] I need help! / Re: Sharpen Shadows HDRI trick for C4D
« on: 2017-08-31, 10:51:07 »
thanks lenogre, this is a cool technique for creating your own HDRIs.

For anyone else looking at this thread the C4D tag lenogre refers to is Bake Texture in english.

I'd still like to know though if there's a cheat in C4D similar to what's shown in the video, anyone else have any ideas?

thanks for sharing this gr4ph0s but the download link is broken

[Max] I need help! / Sharpen Shadows HDRI trick for C4D

Has anyone figured out how to do the sharpen shadows trick in C4D that's shown in the Interior Visualization video for Max here at the 9 minute mark:

[C4D] General Discussion / Re: Texture in Corona Light...?
« on: 2017-08-17, 09:24:21 »
sorry, written in a hurry.

I meant use a 1 x 1 segment plane with a light material applied to it.

You can add a texture in the Emission channel of the light material.

probably your best workaround is to use a 1 x 1 segment plane with a light texture applied to it. You can then add your soft box texture to the texture slot.

This looks like about a 10% bump in performance using Corona with DDR4-3200 with a 1920X - I guess that should give a similar bump with the 1950X.
