[Max] General Discussion / Re: license issue
« on: 2025-03-13, 20:01:13 »
Hi guys,

i just had the same problem. The license was available on the license server - but Corona was not functioning in 3dsmax. Starting 3dsmax took several minutes, changing the renderer to corona took minutes - something was definitely not right.

Updated license server -> nothing
Reinstalling Corona -> nothing
Restarted PC -> nothing
Signing out of my Chaos Account and Log in again -> Now it works again.

Greetings

Thanks for your fast replies! The solution with turning the displacement off during render was new to me. I will definitely try that. I'm doing my scatters in the viewport and IR turned off. So this will cause no problems for me and it make the scene simpler to setup.

Hi there,

i have a question about a good working to work with corona displace modifier to create terrains. Normally i use a displace modifier (w. a heightmap) in combination with turbosmooth. This works, but high settings on turbosmooth will lead to crashes and bad performance.

Now i tested the only a corona displace modifier and it worked perfectly. The downsite is now, that viewport only shows the flat plane. For doing the camera, textures, scatter and detail work i need to see where the terrain is of course. Its too bad that the corona displace modifier can not show a preview of the displacement. What is the best way of working in this case?

My current solution was to make a copy of my terrain, set it to not renderable and added the displacement modifier with my heightmap. This will act as my low poly preview terrain. In forest i used the flat plane with the corona displacement modifier as area and added the heightmap for scattering on displaced geometry.

is this the best way or ist there a simpler solution?

Thanks
Hannes

Thanks for the script. I created a RenderPreset with an empty scene und imported the preset into the other scene. Also cleaned all the effects :) .

Thank you. Never thought about that, i never use the the effects rollout. I guess a marged object must have had these settings.

Works like a charm again :)

Hi there!,

I was following a Youtube tutorial about creating an interior scene today. Just for the fun and learn some new things. Coming to the lighting i recognized a massive slowdown in Corona IR. It takes 15-20 seconds just to start rendering in the IR. Making an update takes even longer.

What it did
_Merged the old file in to a new one and imported just the geometry.
_Stripped the scene to a bare minimum. Deleted all scatters, all decorations and all unnecessary objects.
_Applied material overwrite with a standard corona material.
_Inserted a sun and sky

--> Same problem again.

I tested older client files and the corona sample scene (https://forum.corona-renderer.com/index.php?topic=4354.0) and there all is working fine again without any slowdowns. I added the stripped file as an attachment.

W10 / latest Corona build / 3dsmax 2015 - all up to date
11700k , 48gb RAM

What is wrong with the file?

Just out of couriosity - was this an imported file like dwg etc?

Thanks ! I knew it was me - Already tried #2 und #3 und it works perfectly!

Hi there,

Am I missing the following function, or is it just not possible with Corona at the moment?

1. Is it possible that the interactive render in viewport autoscales to fill the 3dsmax viewport space?
(fill the red lines) In the early stages of a render, I don't have my final images ratios yet and additionally I resize my viewports a lot. I just want a “as big as possible” preview. It's annoying to adjust the ratio per hand - so that i don’t use the interactive render in 3ds max anymore.With the VFB i can scale the windows at least and have all the options. (view point 2)

e.G.
Working with 4 windows
_interaktive Render ist ¼ landscape

Working with 2 windows vertical split
_Interaktive render ist still a small ¼ landscape and ignores 50% of the free space. There i have to change my ratio to a portrait and start again….

2. Is it possible to have some basic control over the images while rendering in viewport?

Like Brightness, Contrast etc… Often it is needed to adjust the brightness when I change the view to control materials, UVW etc….

3. Option to not isolated corona lights when isolating an object.
Having one object isolated to control the mapping -> the images will be too bright because the surrounding architecture is missing and the HDRI shines bright only on the object.

e.G. You have an object on a busy street scene with a sunlight and want to check some details. -> Isolate object. Now the scene is darker and the shadows are missing because only the environment brings the light. So -> Redo isolation -> Switch viewport to find Corona Sun (or use the lister) -> Isolated again.

it has now become treacherously noticeable how slowly volumetrics renders with the Inside Volume mode.
You used this mode in the "sphere" example, right? I can only recommend increasing the step size as much as possible and enabling "single bounce only".

Quote
(and of course the ability to render caustics by region)
This should now work better than before. If you render a region, this should not result in glitches/splotches, but under the hood caustics are calculated for the whole image, so there won't be as much speed up as expected.

Throwing one more. :)

This scene looks so awesome. Can you share it how you did this? I have never used caustsics till today - because it was not needed for my daily work.

Greetings Hannes

Such a simple scene should reach noise level below 5 percent noise within a few minutes. What's are the specs from your machine and what did set as rendering goal  ?

[Max] Bug Reporting / Re: Corona 12 Major Memory Leak
« on: 2024-08-30, 21:21:21 »
I have similar problems on at least three scenes on two different workstations. All with the same set of 3d max 2024 + Plugins. I'm trying Corona 13 at the moment, but nothing has changed. The bad thing is, that these are all confidential data and can not share a lot about these.

On all three scenes rendering behaves the same:

1. Click on render
2. RAM fills up to the maximum (i have 48GB & 64GB, does not matter)
3. VFB shows up and starts rendering

- Workstation 1 does not have any big problems with it and finishes the job
- Workstation 2 locks completely up and needs a hard reset.
