Title: Cinema 4D's Take System and Corona Renderer VFB
Post by: martinfdc on 2018-03-14, 21:46:03
Hi all,

I'm using Cinema 4d's Take system in order to batch render many images.

On Cinema 4d's Picture Viewer I'm able to see all of my rendered images but in Corona's VFB I only see the last rendered image.

Is there a way to tell Corona to save all of the images rendered in the History of Corona's VFB?

I would like to leave my computer rendering all night and come the next day to play with my LighMix, not only of the last rendered image but with all of them.

I know I can save or export my images from Cinema's picture viewer but in the picture viewer I can't play with LightMix...

Is there a way to make this happen or am I just asking nonsense?

Hi,

I'm not familiar with the takes system at all I'm afraid. But just thinking out aloud, can you tell it to save your renders as OpenEXR's? That should at least allow you to load the image/s back into the Corona Image Editor for further tweaking.

Now, I have never tested this with the Takes system, so don't know if it would work, but there is the "Auto save to VFB history on render end" in Corona -> Preferences (see attached)

One word of warning would be that I am not sure what effect this has on memory, if saving the images and having them in the history would require a significant amount of memory or not, especially as there would be LightSelect passes etc saved each time.

Beanzvision, I can save Exrs but then I can't play with Lightmix. For that I need a cxr. But due read further down, my answer to TomG.

TomG, your solution worked just fine. Many thanks. It doesn't have any negative effect on the memory as the images are stored in the hard disk, in the preferences folder of C4D under Corona>History. There one finds all the cxrs and can they tweak all of the renders each one with it's specific lightmix. Crazy awesome!

One thing worthwhile noting is that if one saves from the VFB, one only gets the cxr of the last rendered image. Even thought you are clicking on saving an older render than the last one... Anyhow, this problem can be bypassed by accessing the preferences folder where you will find all of the history of your renders in cxr format (having you enabled "Auto save to VFB history on render end" in Corona -> Preferences)

So many thanks for your help. Now I can work on all of the cxrs of my rendered history.

Good point on the saving - the Save button on the VFB will only save the current render, and the "little disk icon" to save a file from the VFB history goes through the C4D file save system, which doesn't have CXR added yet so you could only save those to EXR, JPG, etc.

Anyway, glad you found a solution in simply getting the files from where they're saved on disk, and ty for confirming it works with Takes and doesn't have a negative impact on memory when used this way!

Yes, I can confirm that is working for us too. Although would be nice to have an official way to do it in the interface without doing this workaround! :)

Ok, I see that is in the plan on Trello for the next beta!:) So good to know it!:)

Oh, that is exactly the same way i wanted to work but i didn't know there was a way!
Thank's for clarifying!
