Gallery / Samsung Galaxy Alpha
« on: 2014-08-25, 23:36:44 »
Haven't seen anyone rendering any gadgets here so I decided to give it a shot and use Corona render for a model of Samsung's new flagship smartphone.

It's only 55 passes, 12min render on my i7 4770K.

Original model was made few days ago for After Effects / Element 3D plugin and it's up for sale in my 3docean portfolio - this is just a simple remake with Corona render setup.

Hope you like it :)

As the topic title says, I got an i7 4770k OC-d to 4.4 Ghz at the moment but I am looking over ebay for some X5650 Xeons to create myself a render node for Corona at home.

Each Xeon X5650 has 6 physical cores (12 with logical cores - HT) which are clocked at 2.66Ghz by default but I would probably get them close to 3.5 or even 4 Ghz on my dual socket 1366 EVGA SR-2 motherboard that I got last week coupled with two Corsair AIO watercoolers - all mounted in some older IBM tower server case that I have found in my garage :D

As I see it, even if those processors are not some new stuff, it would be a relatively cheap option for some pretty good render power for home, personal projects.

Anyway, does anyone have some numbers on how fast would the render be on that 12/24 cores machine compared to a single i7 4770k? I have found some results under benchmark but as I figured those show results for only 1 processor? Or am I wrong?

Work in Progress/Tests / Restaurant Viz - Lightning
« on: 2014-08-18, 22:38:15 »
I am working on a restaurant visualization at the moment and I have decided to use Corona as my primary render engine. This is an early light study preview after few days of modeling the furniture and general layout.

What do you guys think about the lightning? I will be using around 40 IES lights, 12 Corona standard lights and Corona sky/sun with some portals on the front door.

I am kind of concerned about the whole look since, by the design, most of the furniture will be using a dark material. Do you think I will be able to pull it off with this setup or should I change it? I am getting pretty much the same results when I replace Corona sun/sky with HDR.

I think the main problem might be that the only light entrance is the front door - there is no windows anywhere.

I would really like to hear any kind of feedback from anyone that had similar setup/problem.

Could anyone share some simple corona setup for night exterior shots? :) Thank you!

Work in Progress/Tests / Corona Alpha 7 test render
« on: 2014-07-06, 02:34:30 »
Hello everybody! I have just started with Corona yesterday - and it seems awesome! Here is a simple render test after an hour of messing around in Corona. It definitely might replace my V-Ray in the future! :)

I have added a soft bloom effect in PS after the render was finished (100 passes) with default settings. Lightning is HDR + Corona Sun
