[Max] I need help! / Why does an empty scene renders slow?

Hi,

I´m testing 1.6RC2 right now and wonder why an empty scene after a fresh 3ds max (2015) start renders slow? There are no objects or lights at all in the scene, but setting the output size to 4096x4096 Corona needs 20 sec. to render 10 passes. And it even gets worse when adding some render elements which makes Corona take 30 sec. to render 10 empty passes?!

Is this a normal behavior? It seems that Corona renders the whole scene, even when there is nothing to render?!

[Max] General Discussion / Rent to own-Subscription?!

Hi there,

I´m torn between buying the boxed version (more expensive but still yearly payments) and subscription (sweet and cheap, but you have to pay forever). Both options do not fit very well to my work, because 3D-Design is just a small part of my freelance-work. Maybe for people like me there is a third option possible called "Rent to own-Subscription" as Allegorithmic offers with its Substance Live. In a nutshell: You pay on a monthly basis (even pauseable) and if your payments reaches the full price (ie of the Boxed Version) you own it and could use it even after you stop or pause the subscription.

The benefits for people like me, who do not work as fulltime 3D-Artists, would be that buying Corona would become much, much more attractive!

I would love to hear other opinions and of course what the staff thinks about a rent to own-Subscription :-)

When I render a simple material testscene with displacement and then changing the displ.height and render again max crashes once in a while.

is it possible to somehow automate the manual workflow shown in this video for corona renderer? I use Colimo a lot in my daily work and would love to use it also with corona :-)

[Max] General Discussion / Ambient Occlusion (AO Pass)

Hi,

I don´t get how to use AO with corona. I did found the AO-material, but I´ve no clue how to use it, because it´s always just black. My first idea was to put it into the self illu-slot, but in another thread someone said that this would be the worst thing one could do. So how do I enable AO in general (or is it already enabled?) and how do I get a AO-pass from corona?

And I know this is kinda OT, but which render setting do I need to change to get a better and more uniform illumination for interiors? Using the standard settings (PT+HD/PT+PT) produces noticeable shadow-blotches in darker areas.

Hi,

max2014 (Win7/64) crashes with "WTF"-message if the path to the cache-file is not set up properly. A browse-button would be nice somewhere in the future :-)
