Just to confirm my understanding - the saved result is the same from both VFB and PV, and the saved result matches the VFB, leaving the non-saved PV display as the one that is "different"?

Yes that is correct. I also tried again with C4D 2024. The saved results both are matching the Corona VFB, but the PV shows wrong colors.

SOLVED | It depends from color profile preferences in C4D. Linking with display profile, instead of default solve the issue.
Usually I don't use this option, scared by note about performances. :)
