Please, take a look at the video below. Looks like a bug.
It works with IR only if I switch to edge mode while on IR. But if I stop IR and start again it does not count the edge mode.
Please, let me know if I'm missing something.

[Max] General Discussion / Re: Corona 12 - VFB UI
« on: 2024-11-25, 19:34:59 »
I am not a big fan of the UI redesign either, everything is way too flat and clean and therefore looses its hierarchy, but I can live with that.
The only thing I really, really miss about the new UI is that I was able to long press on the start button, open a drop down and release my mouse on the "start interactive rendering" button. Now I have to micro aim on the drop down triangle and do a second click. It would be really awesome if you could reintroduce this, thanks for reading!

Start interactive rendering should be a toggle button, not a start only button.
Currently I have a maximum of 3 passes for IR. I want to edit my scene without IR updating but I can't unless I close the VFB

Hi Devs.

Please, download the file attached.
Open -> click on the IR window and turn the forest object ON.
In my PC it crashes every time.
Luckily it crashes only if I turn it on after I start IR. If I turn it on before, then there aren't crashes thereafter.

Windows 11, Corona 12 Update 1, 3DS Max 2025.1, Forest Pack Pro 9.0.8b

I just installed Corona 12 update 1. Please, let me know if this is a major bug so I revert to 11.

EDIT: I updated to Forest Pack Pro v9.1.5 and it still crashes.

Thank you.

Hello there,
I have a very large concrete texture (purchased on 3dtools.eu) and I want to make tiles out of it, using Corona Tile Map.

I used ORIGINAL as tile mapping in Corona Tile, tile ID on randomizer with istance turned on or off.

The result is the large texture just divided into tiles, what I want is that Corona takes some random part of the large texture and puts it into a tile, every time, so that the result is randomized and you won't see continuity of texture in it...

Somebody please can help me?

I usually do this in Photoshop with the slice tool and save for web. Then you can use each individual jpeg in the tiles map.

[Max] General Discussion / Re: Render region
« on: 2024-11-01, 13:49:49 »
Hi, I simply dont understand why we need this button for this purpose.
What it only does is activate the edition for the regions.
I think that this button should enable/disable all render regions. For me its not logicall that this only enables the edition.
Regions are still active, in order to disabling regions (which is more important rather than activate the edition) we need to click on the arrow and then click "disable all".
For me its confusing, editing render regions should always be active, maybe lock them with an option in the arrow.

Another thing is that when loading an image into History, regions cannot be draw, a lot of times I just want to render a region and I cant.

I have already submit this to Ideas but I was wondering if someone else have this issue.

Agree with the region render button. Doesn't make sense to have a button just to lock (?) the region and something else to disable it. I'll vote for it if you add it

Hardware / Re: AMD 9950x
« on: 2024-10-31, 19:58:35 »
FYI, as per ChatGPT:

Quote
Both files contain data on the benchmark scores for the AMD Ryzen 9 7950X and 9950X, with key columns such as "raysPerSTotal" (benchmark score), "cpuFrequency," "physicalCores," and "ramFrequency."

I'll proceed by analyzing the average benchmark scores ("raysPerSTotal") and other key statistics for each processor to help you compare their performance.

Here’s the performance comparison between the AMD Ryzen 9 7950X and 9950X based on their Corona benchmark scores:

AMD Ryzen 9 7950X:

Average benchmark score: 12,635,707
Score range: from 9,846,837 to 15,370,436
AMD Ryzen 9 9950X:

Average benchmark score: 16,068,239
Score range: from 14,049,010 to 17,591,136
The AMD 9950X shows a roughly 27% improvement in average performance over the 7950X, indicating a significant performance boost in rendering tasks.

resetting the ENU every single time its not practical

Once you have a stable environment backup your ENU, so if something does break in future you can revert your ENU without having to reinstall all your scripts/toolbars etc.

Thank you James. Interesting

I understand that having an intense light behind an object can create a harsh fringing effect. But take a look at the same shot rendered with a standard sun sky that I would say is not intense at all. The foliage is just as clipped as my other example regardless of intensity.

I think this really warrants further investigation or explanation since the outcome is really not desirable. I would like to render the whole shot in frame to keep my post work to a minimum.

EDIT: Is it possible to have "fit to bitmap" available when NOT using RWS?

it is, but you always UVW map the bitmap with tile mode, don't you? And it is more convenient to control the UVW map rather than the bitmap.
You can always change to RWS, fit to bitmap, then turn back to tile mode.

I'm specifically thinking about the usage together with triplanar.
So I wouldn't use a UVW map. I can control the overall size with the triplanar node, but switching to RWS to use the button "fit to bitmap" and then back to regular mapping doesn't seem to be a very convenient workflow, when it sounds like having that "fit to bitmap" available always wouldn't require much work on your end.
I may be wrong of course, but it sounds like this will be like the 'no open CXR button' situation in the VFB and for years we had to use "resume from file" instead.
If not too much bother, please, have the "fit to bitmap" button available at all times.
Appreciated.

EDIT: Is it possible to have "fit to bitmap" available when NOT using RWS?

It seems to be working as expected with Triplanar. Here is a short demo.
Using Triplanar with RWS is a bit tricky. It looks like the dimensions specified in RWS bitmap are respected by triplanar when its scale is set to 1 unit.

its for maps that are NOT square.  For instance, a floorboard texture that is 2000pixels x 800 pixels.  It adjusts the ratio so that it maps correctly.

Hi.
I'm not sure if I understand this update:

"Extended CoronaBitmap about togglable aspect ratio lock button + added 'Fit to bitmap' button. The second one is available when Real World Scale is on and lock is not active."

What's this for? Triplanar?

So... Does it work with triplanar?

I have a BenQ PD3200U as my main monitor and an old NEC as a secondary one.
I totally recommend the Benq. Although I wouldn't have two 32" monitors next to each other; but just because it would be a huge setup.

In what ways do you think the BenQ PD3200U might be an improvement over the Dell U2723QE, besides the bigger screen?

I used to have a Dell UltraSharp U2715H. I don't know the U2723QE, but 27 inch was too small for me and also the colors or brightness weren't perfect on the edges I believe, as far as I can remember. I decided to go for a higher end brand than dell.

14
Unless you feel a 27" is too small, I would buy the same monitor.

I think 27" is good enough, but I wouldn’t mind selling this one and getting a different pair if they offer a significant better experience than the Dell U2723QE. Any model you think worth considering?
