Title: v9 - Cinema 4D 2023 - Colors
Post by: Aben on 2022-09-27, 17:50:15
Hi, there seems to be an issue with color or tone mapping between Corona VFB and Picture Viewer in the 2023 release.
The images in Picture Viewer look more bright and more saturated. See the attachment.

Thanks

Hi, do you have any post-processing activating in the Picture Viewer? The image from the VFB is copied to the PV so in theory, they should be exactly the same. From a quick test here I'm getting exactly the same result.

Hi, thanks for the reply.
No, I didn't have any post-processing filter activated. I tried with another basic scene and the issue is still there in v9. I'm on an M1 Mac, if this could matter.
Attached are the renders from the 2 versions of C4D: R26 corona v8, and 2023 corona v9. And the test file.

Thanks

This may be a macOS thing, I'm not entirely sure. Your test scene is the same for me in both the PV & VFB.

I noticed the same issue. The difference is rather big. I am on a Mac Studio C4D 2023 & v9 daily build.
Also rendering Lightmix settings, the CR lights don't not show up in the C4D picture viewer.

Saving all dims the channels for CR lights. I get the sky and sun but the CR lights are all black.

Interesting. Can you send us a test scene where the lights are not working? Thanks in advance. :)

A macOS mystery. At least now we know.
Thanks for your time.

I still have the same issue with colors in the official v9 release. Anyone on Mac M1 has the same problem? Thanks

Hello

I am having the same issue running C4D 2023 with Corona V10 on a Mac Studio M2. The C4D Picture viewer image is more saturated and contrasting. Is there any news ? Is it different in C4D 2024 ?

Thank you. A

Hi there, can you share some examples or even a test scene?

Here's a quick test in 2023 with the VFB vs Picture Viewer.

Hello

Yes sure. See attachment. There are two simple renders I did. The difference is quite noticeable.

When saving the image it looks the same.

I also added the scene.

I wonder if this could have something to do with the general settings in C4D ?

Thank you for your help !

Hi, I'm not see any differences at all. I have them stacked on top of each other and half of one is masked out. But there is no visible differences.

Hello

Sorry – That is because I uploaded the saved results. They appear to be the same.

Attached you will find a direct overlay of the picture viewer (C4D) and Corona VFB. I cut it off with a circle.

In the test-scene it is slightly visible. In some other scenes more dramatic.

Thank you

Hello

Meanwhile I installed Cinema4D 2024 and Corona V10 Hotfix2 and did the same test with the same result.

Still the colors of the picture viewer unfortunately are off.

Just to confirm my understanding - the saved result is the same from both VFB and PV, and the saved result matches the VFB, leaving the non-saved PV display as the one that is "different"?

Yes that is correct. I also tried again with C4D 2024. The saved results both are matching the Corona VFB, but the PV shows wrong colors.

SOLVED | It depends from color profile preferences in C4D. Linking with display profile, instead of default solve the issue.
Usually I don't use this option, scared by note about performances. :)
