General
  • Fixed: Tonemapping pipeline is sometimes reset to default on loading certain scenes
  • Fixed issue where IR did not immediately react to changes in CoronaScannedMtl
  • Chaos Phoenix - Fixed getting diffuse color from Foam node for newer Phoenix versions (Phoenix 5 nightlies)
  • Fixed failing installation of Scatter for earliest 3ds Max version when upgrading from Corona 8 to Corona 9.

New
  • Corona now correctly resolves in which volume the camera lies. The camera can also be given a non-zero physical size, in which case the camera might lie only partially in one volume (e.g. camera half-submerged in water)
  • Clouds lighting now depends on the sun color intensity and direct input color settings (if selected in the sun properties)
  • Decal Fit to Bitmap's aspect ratio function now takes into account also cropping present in bitmap (both Corona’s and 3dsMax’s bitmap)
  • Added warning to LightMixSetup dialog, when some Light select element contains invalid filename character + replace those characters with '_'
  • Added option to automatically create lightmix elements by 3dsmax layers
  • Added tonemap control viewport shader (as no-op)
  • Added ColorCorrectMap display in high quality viewport
  • Added button to batch load maps in the multiple environments dialog. It works similarly to the one in Multimap
  • User can now set how volume (volume material, sky volume effect and volume grid) interact with alpha channel. + Semi-transparent volumetric effects now also contribute to alpha channel for rays not hitting anything
  • Added include / exclude toggle in the right mouse button menu for exclude lists
  • Added tooltips for "+, Reset, Preset" buttons in Tone mapping
  • CIE - Added tone mapping error reporting when loading an image

Optimisations
  • Improved performance when rendering with masks
    • In cases where the user includes just a small object and the rest of the scene is not rendered we get up to 600% speedup. In non extreme cases it leads to around a 10% speedup
  • Improved caustics for higher resolution renders

ChaosScans
  • "V-Ray" mentions removed from the material information
  • Material is transparent unless some file is loaded, to be consistent with V-Ray
  • Added custom bump and displacement slots to CoronaScannedMtl
  • Fixed incorrect albedo (displayed as red in albedo render element)
  • User can now drag drop vrscans file into the dialog and it will load it
  • Added drag&dropping an image accompanying the vrscan file open the vrscan file
  • Added support for triplanar mapping in CoronaScannedMtl
  • Removed legacy mtsc format from the file explorer filter
  • We now show the preview of the material in 3ds Max viewport

Changes
  • Re-Enabled out of core textures by default
  • CoronaGUI license is released when another renderer is selected
  • AO map: improved wording for include/exclude options

Fixes
  • Fixed an issue with low CPU usage with CoronaAO and CoronaRoundEdges in IR
  • Fixed rare crash occurring when IR is restarted during parsing
  • Improved conversion of VRayMtl SSS to CoronaPhysicalMtl
  • Fixed: Noise limit working incorrectly with black environment + fisheye camera in user scene, leads to infinite rendering
  • Prevented crashes when there is nullptr Atmospheric when a plugin is missing (it will still crash in 3dsmax on opening atmospherics dialog though)
  • Fixed issues with material editor previews being much slower to load than in Corona V7
  • Fixed support of PhoenixFD in Corona 10 + removed PhoenixFD 3 support
  • Fixed DR - Assets that can be found on node are not downloaded anymore
  • CoronaMix map should no longer change the randomization when it is plugged into CoronaUvwRandomizer anymore
  • Fixed: Viewport Performance is slow when Corona light IES has missing path
  • Fixed: "Show in folder" RMB option sometimes opening incorrect folder

  • iToo RailClone - Added support for rendering of non-geometric objects (i.e. Lights)
  • Fixed issue where error message showing why the user can't run the installer was not displayed on unsupported CPUs, unsupported Windows versions and users without correct admin privileges.
  • Image copied from Corona VFB now has 72 pixels/inch resolution when opened in Photoshop
  • Improved AcesOtOperator unmapping in case alpha is 1.0 - Fixes issue that CoronaTonemapControl did not negate the effects of the AcesOT operator.

Major Improvements
  • Significantly speeding up material editor by caching rendered previews. Full material editor is up to 22 times faster.
  • UvwRandomizer(Map/Tex) now supports randomization of position and is renamed to MappingRandomizer(Map/Tex)

General Improvements
  • From now on visibility parameter in Object Properties also affects material's volumetric properties
    • Object visibility should now work for VolumeGrid, fumeFx and both PhoenixFd volume and foam.
  • Re-added support for FumeFX
    • CoronaFumeFxMod must be applied to the FumeFx object
    • Supports FumeFx 6 beta 13+
  • CoronaScannedMtl - fixed swapped tooltips
  • Enable 3ds max "Normal Bump" in SME when Corona is active renderer.

Bugfixes
  • Fixed incorrect viewport display of objects with Scanned Mtl if "Disable transparency" off.
  • Fixed interpreting of values in spinbox when decimal point is set to the same value as group separator (values starting with decimal point and out-of-range values).
  • Invalid curve loaded from scene is now automatically replaced by default curve.

Regression Bugfixes
  • Fixed a crash when adding DirectX shader material to SME with material editor caching active.
  • Fixed issue where camera with non-zero physical size caused issues with caustics.

Chaos Scatter
  • Fixed shading instability of Corona Multimap set to color scattered instances while using e.g. camera clipping in scatter.
  • Fixed user message dialogs not to be hidden behind other windows.

Bugfixes
  • Disabled FumeFX atmospheric effect, since Corona can now shade FumeFX objects by itself
  • Fixed a bug where rendering FumeFX in IR and showing FumeFX GPU preview in viewport would lead to crashes when scrubbing the timeline.
  • Fixed multiple issues of Material preview cache, which caused material not being updated when parameters were changed.
  • Fixed issue where Corona ScannedMtl parameters are reset after deselecting and reselecting the material.

  • Improved lister - columns automatically resize to fit the window, hidden columns are remembered when reopening lister, lister is resized to fit the header when first opened.

  • Changed CoronaMix input name from "Bottom" to "Base" to be consistent with the UI
  • Fixed incorrect tooltip for bump intensity in Corona materials.

Regression Bugfixes
  • Fixed issue where using missing FumeFX channel would lead to crash
  • Fixed crash in lister when changing parameters with Auto Key on, added lister UI update when time changes

  • Updated Optix denoiser implementation from version 6.5.0 to version 7.5.0.
    • Driver version R515 or later is required
    • Supports the same GPUs as 6.5.0
  • Lister - Hidden columns are remembered between 3ds Max sessions.
  • Lister - Columns with checkbox or action button are not resized.
  • Clicking on light mix setup and lister toolbar icons without Corona rendering being active now shows a prompt asking you to switch to Corona renderer.
  • Replaced WxWidgets dialog for "Channel color mapping" (in VolumeGrid and FumeFxMod) with Qt implementation.
  • Added a button expanding action menu to lister.
    • This allows one to e.g. delete light, set camera as current view, render from camera, etc.

Bugfixes
  • Fixed crashes during GI calculation and parsing.
  • Fixed issue where refractive caustics were generated from physical material even when they were disabled in the material options.
  • Fixed broken bump mapping when using Corona Mapping Randomizer.
  • Caustics now work for Pattern with Use pattern material option enabled.
  • Fixed crash/freeze with Phoenix when using IR and changing the timeline.
  • Fixed high quality viewport shading for CoronaSelectMtl.
  • Fixed issue where it was impossible to clear CoronaColorCorrect copied map slot through MaxScript.
  • Fixed clouds with zero density causing slowdown.

Regression Bugfixes
  • Fixed crash when resetting scene while having lister with some objects open.
  • Fixed issue where the same instances were displayed multiple times in the lister after creating copies of instanced objects.

Bugfixes
  • Fixed issue where in rare cases the texture/material dialog was not updated
  • Fixed issue where cursor was incorrectly set to default value when editing regions and/or using history.
  • Fixed CBitmap with RWS on, merges with the wrong scale into scene with different system units.
  • Fixed issue where the product being installed was named incorrectly in the UI.
  • Fixed issue where material editor thumbnail was showing only part of a map, when bitmap with real world scale was passed through other maps. Also fixed viewport rendering in the same cases.

Regression Bugfixes
  • Channel color mapping - fixed NaNs when input scale is changed to 0.
  • Channel color mapping - fixed issues with the entering of numeric values.
