Cinema keeps locking up every time I try to render my scene with the picture viewer. It doesn't seem to happen if I use the Corona VFB. I have attached sample videos, a bug report, and my system specs.

Please see the hardware opengl video I have attached. What's weird is that it's sporadic, and sometimes doesn't lock up. But I have a feeling it has something to do with Corona and memory. Also when rendering to the Corona VFB, it doesn't lock up. But sometimes I need Hardware OpenGL animations, but this freezing has been prohibiting at times. If I uninstall Corona, it doesn't lock up anymore. I am trying to prepare a scene file to upload as well.

Build timestamp: Jan 14 2020 17:30:58
Version: 5 hotfix 2
Cinema version: R21.207 Cinema 4D (single-license)
OS: Windows 10

Hi Matt, thanks for letting us know. I also had some recent issues with C4D freezing up at random times and had no other choice but to force close it. In most cases the scene was empty. I had a suspicion it was my NVidia "game ready" drivers so I reverted back to "studio" and everything seems to be okay (for now). I'm not sure if this might apply to you but I thought I would mention it just in case. Have you done any driver updates recently at all?

Haha funny you say this because I sent this bug to Maxon as well, and they suggested the same exact thing. I was running the "Game Ready" driver, and reverted to the Studio driver as they suggested. However, I was still seeing the same issue. Weirdly today though, it hasn't been acting up. Seems to be pretty random, which doesn't make things any easier to diagnose haha. I am using version 442.92 if that makes any difference.

Thanks!
Matt

I agree, the fact that's it's random makes it much harder to solve. If it does happen again and freezes, maybe run Microsoft Process explorer and force it to make a minidump so you can send it to us. More about that can be found here: https://help.c4d.corona-renderer.com/support/solutions/articles/12000033461-how-to-report-issues-c4d Fingers crossed you won't need to ;)

Hi,

I seem to be having the same Problem. In my case it is also random.
I first thought it was linked to TeamRender, but I noticed that it only randomly decides to lock up when I include my own machine.

I am on Win10
Threadripper 2920x
2080 Super with latest Studio Driver (442.92)

Just had another lockup. Uninstalled Corona just to test if I could do a Hardware render, and it works fine after that. So this is definitely related to Corona somehow.

Also, I suspect that this is somehow related - The first frame of OpenGL rendering does not show any textures. Please see attached animation.

Cinemike has confirmed both random C4D lockup when rendering 1st time. Restarting C4D and trying a second time, he also had the texture issue not showing on the first frame. Please see attachments.

To add a remark:
Below are the frames 0 and 1 with the option "Enhanced OpenGL preview of the Corona materials" ON (the images above where with this option OFF).
As you can see, with this option ON, the textures load for the frame 0 already, but with no scaling whatsoever.
This makes it even more likely it is a Corona problem.

I'm also experiencing issues with Corona Render locking up during render.  I am running the latest Studio drivers from NVIDIA and am on the latest version of Corona 5 (hotfix 2) as well as C4D R21.207.  I can't think of anything that I've changed in the last couple of days that would be affecting this, but I've had to force quit C4D on every Corona render for the last 2 days.

Can you please try out the new V6 daily build and let us know if it's still the case?

Downloaded the daily build and installed it.  Still freezing C4D mid-render.  Corona continues to render, but completely seizes C4D and I have to force quit every time.

Ok, so I completely uninstalled C4D (including all plugins/prefs) then reinstalled it and the Corona version you provided below.  It seems to be working fine now.  However, when I sent the scene to Rebus Farm it was looking for 586 frames that weren't there before it would send to render...could be because they don't have Corona v6 yet?  Don't know...just something I noticed.

Most likely. Render farms will only use the official releases. And so far, V6 is yet to be officially released.

Was good for a day or two and now I'm back to crashing.  Have stripped almost all other plugins from C4D and Maxon has confirmed that it is a Corona Renderer issue.
