Hello,

did you do a full render of the animation? I have noticed that Interactive Rendering has some issues when displaying animation speed on a noise and scrubbing through the timeline (which I will pass on to the developers, thank you), however, final render with various values to Animation speed worked correctly in changing the displacement (in the latest daily build from 31-12-2020).

Good to hear that at least!

Please, keep me posted. If the crash occurs after a freeze, you can still try to manually force quit the application via LSHIFT+RSHIFT+DEL.

thanks for the wishes and all the same to you!

Now to the real business, I'm sorry that you are having issues, however, we have not encountered any 'random' crashes during testing.
Does this happen in any scene?
If it is tied to a particular scene, is it possible that we have a look?
What are you doing at the moment of the crash? (We have had some of these non-bugreport crashes, but those have been fixed in previous versions)
Would it be possible to shoot a video up until the crash?

Hello Mike,

The Maxon's API for this was removed in R23 completely, so it cannot be supported from our side in R23. Other versions of Cinema4D should be able (and I can see that at least S22 can) work with this feature.
We'll have to see if Maxon brings it back or improves it somewhere down the line.

I just updated to Big Sur and R23 crashes on startup. When I remove Corona from the plugins folder C4d starts normally. I'm on the latest MacBook pro, using Corona 6 Hotfix 1. Any recommendations?

Are you using R23.008 or R23.110?
You should be fine using R23.110, additionally, we've added support for Big Sur in a later daily build. At the point of V6 RC1, we were not aware of upcoming Big Sur version.

Hello,

sorry that you're having issues. We are aware of the Project Asset Inspector issue and it is a part of a major planned Corona Bitmap Overhaul. I would recommend using the native C4D bitmap.

Both S22 and R23 do have this issue and we are aware of it. However, I was told that the issue is actually mostly on Maxon's side and would require an immense amount of work to patch in a way that we would support it, we hope to receive a fix to this in S24 in 2021.

we have disabled the old displacement system and replaced it with 2.5D and we have no intentions to bring the old system back in the future and instead focus on the new solution and fix it wherever necessary. If you're having significant issues with the 2.5, please, submit a bug report/create a bug report thread on the forums explaining your issue so that we can tackle it.

Hello,

we acknowledge the overwhelming support of this feature request and we have discussed it. We do want to make some improvements (e.g. in the way glass/transparent material is displayed) but when it comes to the more "advanced" things, we do not know when Maxon is set to release a viewport API, which we desperately need to start working on this. We hope that this update comes with S24, but nothing's for sure.

Hi,

it is a bug and we're working on it, I'll try to bump up the priority a little bit as I can see this being frustrating.
Regarding changing the bitmaps, there is no easy way to change all of them at the same time, they'll have to be manually replaced (as far as I know).

By the way, when importing materials, make sure that you have a tex folder in which the textures are stored, placed next to your .c4d file. When I tried importing from Maxtree, it was just enough to move _Maps folder next to the .c4d file and change the folder name to tex. After that, all materials worked as expected.
