How is the line lighting made? Object emitter? What material?

Did you try removing/disabling some of these lights? For example, disable the line light and see if there is still noise. Disable IES lights and see if there is noise.

Also you can try adding CEssential_Direct and CEssential_Indirect render elements. If you see noise in direct - increase LSM, if you see noise in indirect - increase GI/AA balance.

For IES lights you can also try using max's default photometric lights instead of Corona lights.

It's only 5 passes, why? Are you using bucket rendering? Or changed some render settings?

Can you post screens of your scene? Material config? Lighting?

No. You need LOTS of AA samples for clean DOF. But you don't want those samples for the whole image.

I think adaptivity in progressive mode could help here. It was available in older versions of Corona and AFAIK it's still accessible somehow via string options but I'm not sure how. You could for example set gi/aa to 2 or 4, let it cook for a while and then adaptivity comes in, it only refines edges with really high noise threshold and it puts A LOT of samples into these pixels.

Check your 3ds max gamma settings.
In max 2014+ it should be handled automatically, just make sure you are using gamma 2,2 and "affect material editor" is checked.
In older version of max you should have gamma 2,2 in all available boxes.

I would suggest turning down GI/AA balance to 16 or lower to focus more on AA samples and setting pass instead of time limit to have more regular outcome.
