Please check this article covering the risks of using daily builds: Daily Builds FAQ
If you are familiar with the daily builds and know how to use them, download the newest one here:
Warning! There is a major bug in this daily build causing a crash once a Corona Camera is created or selected! This will be fixed in the upcoming versions.
chaos-corona-12-3dsmax-daily-2024-03-05.exe

User-Facing Improvements
  • Added a toggleable lock button for Corona Decal to lock width to height aspect ratio.
  • User-Facing Improvements: added glossiness mapping for clear-coat in CoronaScannedMtl.
  • Viewport display of camera's focal plane was enabled in the camera view and parameters to enable it and change its opacity were added.
  • Added the option to fit Corona's Pattern crop box using another object size and transformation.
  • Added the option to ignore bump in Corona Curvature map.
  • Added option to select objects in the scene that will be included in/excluded from environment illumination.
  • Added the Alpha interaction option into the CoronaScannedMtl.
Bugfixes
  • Fixed rare NAN caused by an error in VFB.
  • Fixed rare NAN in Caustic solver.
  • CoronaNormal map uses fixed gamma = 2.2 in OCIO mode for gamma correction (enabled by "Add gamma to input").
  • Fixed issue where some scenes with Chaos Scatter might load for infinitely long time.
  • Fixed issue where some instances were occasionally placed outside of very-fine meshes when using the UV-distribution scattering.

Unfortunately the scenes used in the tutorials are not available for download (use of third party assets where we do not have redistribution rights, just the rights to render with them).

[Max] Feature Requests / Re: Cryptomatte improvements

By Material is already in the daily builds. The other items are more dependent on the mix of native DCC file save routines and ours, so are more complex.

Yep HF 1 should have resolved this, so if you have cases where it is still happening, a ticket with scene / reproduction steps / images / video would be best. We'd need to know things such as, was the scene opened and saved in Corona 11 before HF1? Does it always happen in the same scene,  and never happen in others, or is there a different pattern to it? Thanks!

Sounds like a good summary :) There's one other thing to consider - with 4 nodes, they can all be rendering while your workstation is left out of that, leaving it fully powered for work, IR, and other things. With a single machine, if you are rendering, then this will impact anything else you are working on at the same time.

51
Did you check and follow the tutorial at
? A good starting point if you are unsure of decals. You haven't shown us what material was applied to the decal object, that would be critical to see (e.g. if no material applied to the decal object, or the same material as the base object, then no result will be seen).

[Max] General Discussion / Re: Cloud Support
« on: 2024-02-28, 15:22:35 »
No plan to bring Chaos Cloud Rendering to Corona in any form, sorry. Cloud Collaboration we plan to support, though.

53
Kind of. There is extra overhead in having to send scene info to the nodes and get the rendering result back, and there is the question of what Corona Render Node licenses you would need to purchase (historical users have main workstation plus 3 render nodes, so that would leave a subscription for one more node, for example). And of course your router / switch would have to be up to the task of allowing the data to flow smoothly between 5 machines (WS, and 4 nodes).

[C4D] General Discussion / Re: Chaos Vantage

Hahah yes, that was where I was pointing out the individual cost for Vantage that you'd have to subscribe to on top of the Corona subscription. There'd be no change to Corona pricing itself of course :)

What does RAM usage look like?

To clarify, there would be no "price increase" for using Vantage, just that it's a separate product you would need to purchase to be able to use it, meaning you'd have to buy two products not just one. This is not the same thing as "price increase" which is a change to the pricing of an individual product :)

On Vantage for Mac, a question to send to the Vantage team (the Chaos forums should have a section). I would suspect not due to the usual issue of the graphics hardware being very different on Macs (or at least those newer ones that have moved away from using NVIDIA cards in them etc.).

57
Yes that option is still there, both for Corona Premium and Corona Solo. Do remember that auto-renewal is applied to any order, so you will have to remember to cancel before renewal (but that too is the same as before).

58
The roadmap is not an indication of who is working on what any more :) It is no longer updated by the devs to that level of detail, just by me at a higher level of detail.

[C4D] General Discussion / Re: Chaos Vantage

For an initial release, it could well be that functionality is limited to exporting to Vantage, after which any changes you make in Vantage will not appear back in your Max/C4D scene. There is no plan for a live link style functionality, though we will see how things go over time; but for now it's viewed as a one way conversion to vrscene to enable opening it in Vantage. You would still be able to edit in Vantage just as any other scene in Vantage, but as noted that would remain just in Vantage.

The expected purpose at the moment is to very quickly render previews, or if the needs of your client match the differences/limitations of GPU rendering, finals. Ideally this would be for, say, animated fly throughs too as that's when saving some rendering time for previews would be most useful, though again we'll have to see how far things go in the initial implementation in terms of animation. For 12 though the idea is to get the basic foundation in place and then go from there :)

PS the speed of Vantage compared to IR is very different :)

[C4D] Bug Reporting / Re: Dual cpu speed problems
« on: 2024-02-22, 20:04:43 »
The report is welcomed of course! I was looking to see if we had a better thread to report it under, but for now there isn't one, we might set one up though if we hear more issues with single CPUs. On the 3990X we have for testing, this fix did indeed make a difference, so this is interesting.
