[C4D] Resolved Bugs / Re: Team Render 300% Slower?
« on: 2018-07-30, 20:22:47 »
Teamrender with latest daily build seems back to slower result than local (single) render. Known issue?

Still not able to replicate this here, in one test, it was 3m 11s for local render, 1m 52s for team render using 3 nodes, to same number of passes (10, in this case). With the network overhead in such a small number of passes, and fact that the two nodes are slower than the main machine, this is about the expected improvement (rather than 3 times faster)

Some questions:

- Is this TR to Picture Viewer, or TR through the web manager? My test was to picture viewer.
- Is this PC, or Mac?
- Is this every scene, or just particular scenes?
- Is this for rendering to passes, or noise limit?

Thanks!

[Max] Bug Reporting / Re: strange IES spotlight
« on: 2018-07-30, 20:07:54 »
It's not happening for me with the IES profiles provided with Corona (and using a CoronaLight, haven't tested other light types) - I am getting the expected results.

On the second question, simply drop a CoronaBitmap into the Texmap slot in the Color options for the CoronaLight (and check the button next to Texmap). Depending on how sharp you want the projection to be, you may need to increase Directionality (but be aware that higher Directionality means more noise, so longer render times) - in the example below, so that the pattern was visible I raised Directionality to 0.9, which is very high :)

And just for a moment I thought it might be guitars, Marshall stacks, and 80s hair styles! ;)

[C4D] Resolved Bugs / Re: Beta noticeably slower than Alpha
« on: 2018-07-27, 17:32:45 »
This?

Nope. Has to be the actual .c4d file (with any relevant assets for texture maps etc.). There's nothing we can diagnose from an image, whether that's a render or screen capture, sorry. We won't be able to help further without the scene being sent along.

Again, an image of the render doesn't have what we need to diagnose what you are experiencing - we'd really need the scene to find out what is happening in there.

Most likely, we'd still really need the scene. If you could upload it, that would be very useful! Last time we only received a JPG image of the VFB, but we'd need the actual C4D scene (it won't be shared, or used for anything other than debugging). Thanks!

Going to close this post later today, so get your questions in about Nik as soon as possible!

[Max] I need help! / Re: Problems with some scrolls

Glad it's fixed! And with it resolved, I can now say... so this was with an older version... that means it was a problem with... some Elder Scrolls! Sorry, I have a strange sense of humour :)

(Not to forget that there was absolutely nothing like this to call upon, use, modify, or adapt - Corona has had nothing like this before, so it was new territory, being written from scratch from the ground up!)

Snag with the node editor is that there isn't really an interim version, it has to work (mostly) or not at all, and no point in releasing it when it doesn't work at all - it's very all or nothing unfortunately. The plan is for it to be out next week though as noted in the roadmap (of course first release of Beta 2 will be a release candidate, for everyone to test)

[Max] I need help! / Re: Same scene, different render times
« on: 2018-07-25, 21:15:18 »
My first thought on testing would be to look at what is different, and that's the ivy - I'd try hiding that and rendering the outside view and see if it makes the render time more in line with the other scene (which doesn't have the ivy visible). The fact that the ivy is all geometry does sound like it could slow things down.

Shame the stats aren't visible on the internal render to compare what you are getting on those (if you can post, could be interesting!)

If it's not the plants, then maybe the glossy pink floor (also not visible in the first image). You could also try a material override and see if that makes the huge difference in render time, in case it isn't the heavy ivy geometry.

This scene maybe made by 3ds Max? Do you using posteffects, or its only by3D soft?

The image was posted in 2014, and the user last active in 2015, so you may not get a reply :)

Awesome! We look forward to seeing you there!

[Max] General Discussion / Anyone going to SIGGRAPH 2018?
« on: 2018-07-24, 23:40:47 »
There will be three events at SIGGRAPH 2018 in Vancouver this year featuring the Corona team!

- A presentation from Ondra on the past, present and future of Corona Renderer
https://www.chaosgroup.com/siggraph2018#overview

- A technical paper from Jaroslav Krivanek (our head of R&D), and Petr Vevoda and Ivo Kondapaneni,  on Bayesian Online Regression for Adaptive Direct Illumination Sampling
https://s2018.siggraph.org/presentation/?id=papers_336&sess=sess135

- A course featuring Ondra (and Vlado and others) on Realistic Rendering in Architecture and Product Visualization
https://s2018.siggraph.org/presentation/?id=gensub_402&sess=sess259

Info on this year's SIGGRAPH at https://s2018.siggraph.org/conference/ - we hope to see some of you there!
