No problem, happy that it helped!

Tom, there is no reason to use HDDs for system drive since 2013 at least :- ).

You can defragment HDD which would bring you to your original performance partly, but that is still snails compared to SSD.

500/512GB drives goes for as low as 100 bucks.

Agreed! There is something weird going on though, since the machine worked fine when I got it but has got slower to boot and load applications over time, and a defrag hasn't restored it (which makes me worry it isn't the drive) - the Lenovo tools report no problem with the drive access.... yet the machine would boot in 30 seconds before, but now takes like 4 minutes and takes ages to open Photoshop etc. With the pricing of SSDs now it can't hurt to try, and I sure will! I just hope that does fix it! The next step will be to just restore everything back to factory and load things up again, I guess :(

I'm going to try replacing the HD with an SSD and see if that fixes it, we'll see!)
Just do it. It solved all my problems after the Lenovo service replaced the HDD 3 times. :)

Definitely going to order something as soon as I get back home (Friday). I will report in on whether it helped! Weird that it used to work super fine and now is like a snail for loading things etc (but rendering speed etc seems unchanged, so really does look like the disk access stuff). It was your experience that lead me to think there's something crappy about the  drives Lenovo is using :)

At the moment, there's still some uncertainty about mobile GPUs being able to run Optix / the AI denoisier - for example, my laptop has a 960M, which is based on the Kepler architecture so should in theory work; however all it does is crash, even on the simplest scenes. So for using the NVIDIA denoiser on a laptop, you'd really have to test it out first.

(as a note, this laptop is the one I use for demos at events, and IR etc is manageable without the AI Denoiser - not a patch on a desktop of course, but still manageable for on-the-go portability; it's a Lenovo Y700 touch, and except for some wonkiness with the hard drive which seems to have got 6 times slower over the last year, it works ok as a portable demo machine; I'm going to try replacing the HD with an SSD and see if that fixes it, we'll see!)

Round Edges is working in the scene - the material however is mostly Diffuse, where the difference is barely noticeable, which would be expected. Rounding the edges is most prominently visible on reflective surfaces, as those catch highlights, so the result in your scene as set up is as expected; it's working, but with a material like that, you wouldn't see a lot of difference (same with if the geometry was actually chamfered)

I adjusted the material to have high reflectance just so you can see it is working as expected; rounding of edges, either via shader or via geometry, won't show up a lot on diffuse materials. The images are round edges off, round edges on, and the material set up used; no changes were made to the Round Edges map itself, so it is doing the same rounding with your material, just that with it being almost pure diffuse, the difference is (as expected) not very visible.

Hope this helps!

Point 1, that has always been the idea, yes. There should as little difference between Corona on one product than on another, and there should be a minimum of difference (only those arising from the software architecture of the 3d program, where some things may be not needed, or some things may be not possible; but this should be a rare exception rather than rule) between any Corona version. We want Corona to be Corona whichever software you are using, and that is the reasoning behind the naming convention so that people know they are getting the same thing in whatever software they are using.

On point 2, that is not the plan :) Most crashes are not actually caused by Corona anyway ;)

(with Corona Renderer 3 for 3ds Max due soon, I would say the likely first official release will be Corona Renderer 3 for Cinema 4D, even though there was no 1 and 2 :) But, that would depend on how fast Corona Renderer 4 comes out I guess!)

3953
Just for clarity, when the final is released the naming will be based on the Corona core that it is based on.

This means that if it were released today for example, it would be called Corona Renderer 2 for Cinema 4D (even though there was no Corona 1). Otherwise, people will be thinking that Corona for C4D at version 1 is behind 3ds Max at version 3 and why aren't they on version 3 yet.

We'll see how it all works out, but I think with good education it can then be up to the user whether or not they want to choose it for final - so long as they know the shortcomings when they choose one or the other, then it seems fair to let the user (and their client) choose which is the best approach. We will definitely always recommend the higher quality of the Corona denoiser, which is more sophisticated in what it does and how it does it, and we will stress that in as many places as we can think of so that users understand what they are choosing between - but so long as a user is aware of that then it would seem ok to let them make their own choice. We'll listen to what everyone has to say on the subject, and will make a considered decision either way.

Could you share a screen grab of your material set up, so we can be sure it is set up correctly? Or sharing the scene, that would be good too if possible. Is this on every object, or in one particular scene, etc?

Are all machines the same CPU make and model? EDIT - Assuming that is you are using more than one machine, you don't say for sure. If it is more than 1 machine, would be interested to know the CPUs of each, and whether the frames from each machine are consistent with each other and only frames from different machines are inconsistent.

When we install latest daily build AI denoiser not working it shows missing optix dll ... we have tried downloading Nvidia optix but not working
in some system it worked fine did not show error.

Did you enable the option to install the AI Denoiser using the "Custom" option in the Corona Installer? Shouldn't need to download the Optix stuff separately, so long as that is checked.

There is something wrong with corona bitmap in dome mode.. if you zoom into the object in your scene the hdr is zoomed too.. like the asphalt ground is getting huge.. if i zoom out everything looks ok. Please check.

Isn't this correct for dome though? It is a texture mapped onto a virtual dome object, that actually has height, position in 3D space etc, so zooming in would be just as if you were zooming in on the floor of the object. Unless you mean that Corona 3 is doing something different with dome than what 2 and earlier used to do? Maybe some sort of "extra" zooming? Could you share screenshots if so? Cheers!

(that being the 3ds Max roadmap, but that's where developments to the Corona Core happen)
