[Max] I need help! / Re: Corona 7 scene converter problem
« on: Yesterday at 14:08:39 »
You can find reports and discussion of point 1 in https://forum.corona-renderer.com/index.php?topic=33253.0

As for the second, until someone from the other render engine writes a converter to work with the Physical Material, it will not be possible to convert it to that engine. Any existing converter will only convert Legacy Material since that was all that was around at the time, and they would need new code to convert the new Physical Material. Hope this helps!

Right, it's not solved - but it is reported to the team, with an example scene, confirmed that we can reproduce it, and next up is that we can take a look into solving it :)

Only way I could think of is to duplicate the slicer, use include exclude list as to which objects each one affects.

[Max] I need help! / Re: The problem with the environment
« on: 2022-01-17, 13:48:05 »
Your PNG doesn't show a white environment, but a PNG saved with alpha so that there is no environment (just 100% transparency where the environment would have been). Depending on what you use to open the PNG, and what settings you have in that program, it may be ignoring the alpha and just showing some default color there.

More info would be good, e.g. when you say you "added the environment", what do you mean? An HDRI added to the Environment Map in the Max settings? Something else?

BTW, attaching the image as shown in Photoshop when loaded, where you can see the alpha. If that is the issue, when saving to PNG, do not enable alpha, or save to something like JPG that doesn't support an alpha channel so you can't accidentally save with one :)

This is the intended screenshot of the feature in Max ;) A way to override displacement settings for individual objects, with different settings from the overall scene. I don't think this exists in C4D at present.

[Max] Daily Builds / Re: Chaos Scatter feedback
« on: 2022-01-12, 01:27:19 »
In Max this can be done by using a Displacement modifier in the stack rather than relying on displacement in the material (as that stack-based displacement is before render time, while other displacement is at/during render time, making it "impossible" to include it in the scattering in the same way it doesn't show up in the viewport).

It's still on the roadmap, as planned for at some point in the future (all we can say just now is "not Corona 8"):

At very least an image showing what you mean would be a huge help (along with either the scene, or screengrabs of the various set ups of the scene)

and Corona for Rhino?

There are no current plans to develop Corona for any hosts other than the current two of Cinema 4D and 3ds Max, sorry.

[C4D] Daily Builds / Re: Slicer
« on: 2022-01-03, 15:47:39 »
You can indeed use the rayswitcher if you want to cut something away but leave the interior lit as if it was not cut away (e.g. remove the roof from a building, but see the rooms lit as if the roof was still there). Slicer into direct visibility, nothing into the GI, and that should be it if I remember rightly.

If you are going to do anything with EXRs in Photoshop, always have https://www.exr-io.com/ installed (it's free), otherwise PS is no good with EXRs. May not resolve this issue, but is a must-do anyway.

Oooh cool, ty on the info about the game! Talking of that book, I must re-read it, been decades since I read it last. But back to the awesome images now :)

It should only affect how the light is bouncing around, and if it gets darker, this likely means the darker is more accurate. Might be useful if you post examples though so we can see what you mean, in case there is any problem there :)

It's safe (and better) to use the 4K unless you happen to get square artifacts, which only show up in very rare niche cases (so, try it and use it, unless you find it gives you problems which is unlikely).

Also the name of the AI in William Gibson's "Neuromancer" and related cyberpunk series :)
