[C4D] General Discussion / Re: opacity mask problem

Could you use my c4d file showing the problem from earlier, and create a similar map in GIMP and see if it works on my cone mesh?

I can't render that file as I don't have Corona 7 with the new Physical material installed.

To be honest I've given up on Corona for this job and switched back to Octane - I have a deadline to meet.

tried that - the soft edge is replaced by a hard edge

Here's the problem with a newly created texture. Same material applied to a sliced cylinder primitive using cylindrical projection, and a plane using flat projection.

The cylinder does not show the edge problem, the plane does.

In fact the problem shows up on every mesh I've tried except a cylinder.

How the file renders. The problem only visible on the cone.

I've attached a zip file with a c4d file and an opacity map.

I just cannot figure out why this is happening.

looking at mine, I can't see the darkening on the inside of the pot shape at the back, only on the front faces

yours looks fine yes

my material is uv mapped to a slightly conical shape, could you try yours that way?

Anyone care to comment?

[C4D] General Discussion / opacity mask problem

I'm rendering a yoghurt pot. I want to create an opacity map so the top of the yoghurt fades away to transparency over a short distance. I have created this as a black and white map in Photoshop, blurred it, and applied it to the opacity channel. I'm getting an ugly darkening at the transparent edge of the mask. This doesn't happen if the map is not blurred.

This pic demonstrates the problem, to exaggerate it I've created a map with castellations.

How can I fix this and have the edge fading to transparency cleanly?

The problem with setting the maximum resolution for interactive rendering to say 1000 pixels, is that while it helps with the VFB size, it also means that the interactive viewport renders at low quality.

Will there ever be a fix for the zoom buttons and window size using the VFB on a mac?

If I'm rendering a hi-res image, the VFB opens at a huge size, so I can't resize the window, as the corner to drag is off screen. I can zoom in and out using the buttons, but can't zoom out to see the whole image, or scroll left and right using the scroll bar, as the scroll bar is off screen.

[C4D] General Discussion / Displacement Mess

Getting extremely jaggy and distorted displacement. Black and white slightly blurred psd file as displacement. Tried 16 bit file and 8 bit file.

[C4D] Daily Builds / Re: V7 support in macOS 10.13.

This is very disappointing. I run 10.13.6 because that's the last version with nvidia drivers for running Octane and Redshift. I use those two and Corona depending on the job in hand. Looks like Corona won't get used so much. Ok I can use V6, but I want to use the new material workflow.

[C4D] General Discussion / displacement in layered material
« on: 2020-09-01, 16:18:52 »
I am doing a packaging render. There is a base colour and a printed foil. I have created a layered material with a base layer and then the foil layer defined with an image mask. Both these materials have a slight bump to give a card texture.

I also want the foil areas to be slightly debossed or indented like a foil stamp. So I've used a version of the foil mask with a tiny amount of blur and piped this into the displacement of the foil material.

I'm not getting the result I want in fact nothing seems to be happening.

What would be the best set-up for what I want to achieve?
