Gallery / Hardcore Corn
« on: 2021-07-17, 21:35:52 »
Some summer food corn for you. Grilled, roasted well. Scan from several hundred of photos. What I like about corona renderer is how easy is to setup an SSS shader, it's what makes this corn look corny.

An office refurbishment project by dMFK architects for Derwent London, visualized by yours truly on behalf of Walktheroom.
It started in April and was done completely on daily builds of now released version 6.
I had to test Phoenix foam compatibility in V6 daily so that's why there is a keyboard getting washed in the video - the foam works great.

The new adaptive env. sampler and the 4K cache helped reduce rendering time.

Thank you!

Gallery / Pilgatan 6, Malmo / Akelius Office
« on: 2020-03-17, 01:14:29 »
This project is a tribute to WtR(WalkTheRoom), the studio where I've worked for the past 4 years. It is also my first ever try on doing architectural animation of a modern office.
The office itself is located in Malmo, Pilgatan 6 and is owned by Akelius. 220 sq m.
From technical aspect - this project was rendered with Corona 6 daily build 20.02, which removes the need for portals when lighting with an hdri and it cleans up the noise faster. I am very happy with this new feature that Corona team has added.
3Ds max did it's part with crashing several times during rendering. And AfterEffects was used to bring all the frames into a somewhat organized movement.
The soundtrack(Limitless by Vital) was licensed from Bensound.

Gallery / Kornhamntorg Office, Stockholm
« on: 2019-10-13, 20:04:04 »
Another visualisation of an office in central Stockholm, created in studio for WalkTheRoom. This small office project allowed to have some time to test Corona 4 multiple hdri option back when it was released in June. The biggest advantage is that all these variations in light/mood did not require re-rendering, but were accomplished by tweaking the lightmix. In a small project like this one there was almost no render time penalty for having multiple hdri calculated at once.

I really enjoy this feature of Corona, I've been requesting it on numerous occasions, even personally from Ondra during Corona Academy course and I'm glad that it was implemented. It comes really handy.
If suggestions are something I could leave here after using this feature since June then I would really like to have some lightmix grouping and more advanced functionality. For example when having multiple suns and their respective corona skies, it would be nice if enabling one would also enable it's sky and disable the other sun+sky.

[Max] Bug Reporting / Multiple HDRis crashing render nodes
« on: 2019-08-26, 14:58:52 »
Hi! I've been using a setup I made following a video tutorial by Ludvik(miss your tutorials, man!). I have a dummy object which controls the h. rotation of multiple HDRIs it also has an attribute holder as a modifier that controls same rotation and gamma without the need to open the material editor and tweak them one by one. It works just fine on one machine, but as soon as I tried to render distributed it would crash the nodes on parsing scene/downloading assets phase. As soon as I would have deleted the dummy object from scene nodes would render just fine. All nodes have the same C4 version as the master workstation. All assets are located on a network location easily accessible by nodes and workstation. Tested on a heavy scene and on a simple teapot scene, same problem. I had a short chat with Tom, he has never encountered something like this and adviced to rise it on the forum.

Beyond first wave of SSS test threads on the forum, late to the party, here I come with (not rotten) tomatoes. These are my first steps(tests) with SSS in Corona.
I must confess, back in the days, vray gave me hard time and lots of frustration while trying to figure out the VrayFastSSS setup and the balance of things. On the other hand now the implementation of SSS in Corona is as brilliant as was the implementation and simplicity of translucency.
These are all photogrammetry generated assets, made for sale primary. The workflow is mainly based on Bertrand's guide, generated with an old Nikon D90. Nothing fancy really.
I like the result and the ease of setup. The bread slice in the last picture is also using SSS and looks much more lifelike compared to previous translucency + refraction/scattering approach.

P.S. If you've missed out my 31 days of giveaways thread in the goodies section be sure to check it out as the last addition is a photogrammetry generated Custard Apple/Cherimoya

Gallery / Green Terrace
« on: 2017-10-19, 23:56:30 »
Something unusual I worked on recently for WalkTheRoom. I had a client's designer pointing at things that needed to be on the terrace. The feedback "...more plants" was something I heard multiple times after adding a few. And this is supposed to be in Stockholm ;) p.s. technicalities - full 3D except bg buildings, forest pack for carpet and grass, a bit of megascans stuff, corona, DoF in max, PS camera raw + arion fx. Also been able to use some of my personal photogrammetry objects. Also using Jakub Čech's banana tree model. Happy with the result.

Gallery / Office Furniture Showroom
« on: 2017-02-21, 13:19:34 »
A work done for WalkTheRoom.
It's about a space that is meant to be used as an office furniture showroom. Due to limited natural light most accent was put on spotlights to highlight various zones and pieces. Mostly based on IES lights. Rendered in 5K on double xeons. Full 3D, very little post.

I've been tackling photogrammetry for 2 years now, here and there between regular projects. Had a lot of failures and gave up on this many times. Last year Bertrand Benoit posted in October his guide on photogrammetry, also during SOA Day#7 Radoslav Ignaciuk shared his workflow on photogrammetry. All this information was put to good use and the results are talking for themselves. Thank you Bertrand and Radoslav for sharing your insights.
All proudly rendered with Corona.

Gallery / Residential Teaser
« on: 2017-01-02, 13:03:12 »
The very last project of 2016 done for WalkTheRoom AB. This is a teaser render for a residential project to be developed in 2017 in Stockholm, Sweden.
24 hours of work, everything is 3D except for the 2D kids. Minor post production was done in PS, otherwise quite strong base directly from framebuffer. The pine trees are from Radoslav Ignaciuk.
Other vegetation from Evermotion, VP, Megascans. 2 slightly different lighting moods were developed, one with corona volume material + pg hdri sky and the other one is on pure corona sun+sky and pg sky in override for visibility and reflections.
This project is different because it has lots of models generated through photogrammetry, even the terrace pavement is from the newly added textures.com scanned surfaces.
Rendered in 5K
