Scene files can't be infected outside of 3ds Max, most likely that happened on their creation.

These are old files, untouched, unopened - so how come 90% of them generate these "anim layers"? Had it been a 3Ds Max bug then every file merged would cause an issue, but this isn't the case.

I'm not saying I wont clean the source files, but I'm not doing a "cleanse" on thousands of files before I  figure out what's causing this, and if it can happen again.

Prune Scene is able to remove the layers from the file, but the problem comes back if you merge or duplicate an object after.

Just to clarify - you remove anim layers from the source file before merging, right? Otherwise your descriped situation makes perfect sense - anim layers lives in source file and are transfered to new file upon merging any object. If you don't clean the source, you will be infecting more and more files over time.

The files in question have never been opened, it's 7000+ files of furniture - cleaning one file removes the problem from that one file, but I dont see how they got "Infected" in the first place? I'd rather not have to do a clean on all the files if they just end up infected again.

We have 5 folders linked to Connector, with categories of 3D models. An endless list on "anim layers" and keyframes (dope sheet) is generated whenever we merge a file from one specific folder.
It seems like some kind of "virus" has affected all the models in this folder. Prune Scene is able to remove the layers from the file, but the problem comes back if you merge or duplicate an object after.

Prune Scene doesnt detect any virus, and I don't understand how something could "infect" all of the files (thousands of MAX-files)....

Can't find anything on any forums about this, so maybe someone here has heard of this?

We'll double check this, thanks for reporting.

What did the check reveal? Seems so random to implement something like this....

Why is "Beauty" the new standard frame shown in the framebuffer? Before Corona 6 it would always show "LightMix" whenever I would render.

The beauty pass is irrelevant when I have a lightmix, and because it was the standard in previous versions, my brain assumes that I'm looking at the right image.
On two projects I've managed to save out the beauty pass instead of the lightmix, and then closed the file only to realize the mistake in photoshop....

Is this a "bug" or intentional? Or can I change it somewhere in the settings?

3Ds MAX 2020 and Corona 5

Could you please archive your scene and upload it using our private uploader?

Private uploader:

Please let me know if you choose to do so, we will investigate the scene and offer possible solutions.

I cannot share my files from work unfortunately, but we found a "fix" for it that seems to work most of the time: saving/closing and re-opening the scene again

Please can you try to change the following on your system to:

Search -> Control Panel -> Clock and Region -> Region -> English

confirmed working workaround, waiting for hotfix for this, please :)

This fixed the issue

Can you provide some more information please?

Which version of Windows are you using? What are your system language and locale settings?

Windows 10, 2004
Display Language: English
Preferred Language: Norwegian
System Locale: Norwegian Bokmål

I cannot open any MAX-file without it crashing.

It crashes when it tries to load the "CoronaMaxUtils2020.dlt"

I've updated windows and tried uninstalling / installing Corona 6 - keeps crashing.
Reverted back to Corona 5, no crash.

3Ds MAX 2020 and Corona 5

In some scenes my render randomly shows up black (not rendering anything). I know it has something to do with render elements, seeing as the problem disappears / reappears whenever I add, remove or edit my elements.

Several people at the office has had the same issue, but no one knows exactly how or why it happens. Even after it's "fixed", it randomly happens again without warning.

Is this a known issue? any solutions?

Ok, so here's the new build with the 3900x. Anything that should or could be better or worse?

Processor: AMD Ryzen 9 3900X
Cooler: Corsair Hydro H115i RGB Platinum
Motherboard: ASUS ROG Crosshair VIII Hero, S-AM4
Graphics: ASUS GeForce RTX 2070 ROG STRIX
RAM: Corsair Vengeance LPX DDR4 3600MHz 64GB
Power: Corsair TX750M, 750W PSU

Another question:
I found a RAM-set of 128GB at he same price as the 64GB set.
Corsair Vengeance LPX DDR4 3600MHz 64GB
4x16GB DDR4 3600MHz (PC4-28800) CL18, XMP 2.0

HyperX Fury DDR4 2666MHz 128GB
8x16GB 2666MHz (PC4-21300) DDR4 CL16

I realize that the 128GB set is slower, but would it be noticeable?

Was looking at the Threadripper 2970WX, but its too expensive so I just went down the threadripper line to 2950. But ye, looking at the benchmarks the 3900x seems like a more reasonable choice.

Thanks! :)

Any tips for a graphics card? I dont want to spend too much on a card that is OP for what I'm doing. Not going to play any 4K games on the side.

I'm about to do a new build for my home computer, optimized for modelling in MAX and rendering with Corona (arch-viz, heavy scenes). Does anyone have any tips on what components should or could be switched out/in? Unsure about the graphics card, is it overkill?

Case: Corsair Obsidian 500D Tempered Mid Tower
Power: Corsair TX750M, 750W PSU
Processor:AMD Ryzen Threadripper 2950X
Cooling: Deepcool Castle 280 RGB
Graphics: ASUS GeForce RTX 2080 Turbo
Motherboard: ASUS ROG Strix X399-E Gaming, Socket-TR4
RAM: HyperX Fury DDR4 2666MHz 32GB x2

Is it safe to buy two sets of RAM? Or should I buy a 64GB set?
And last thing; Back when I went to school everyone used to say that Intel was better than AMD when it came to 3Ds MAX, is that just hear-say? If not, why?

Changing Windows to english worked, but some of us got errors and had to delete the enu-folder aswell.
