Gallery / Complex Materials
« on: 2019-08-29, 13:37:54 »
I want to share with you this image I made for my Corona workshop at the MADI, Master in Digital Architecture at the Venice IUAV University.
I've attached the material's set-up screenshot.

Basically it is a reflective materials with this structure:
- No diffuse
- Reflection color: falloff (base color+with some darker areas+AO color)
- Reflection glossiness: Composite of 3 maps
- Bumb: composite of 2 maps mixed with a noise

The layer material is just to set up the color of occluded parts of the model and it is controlled by an AO map.

We are so proud to publish this job we made for Foster + Partners.
The image has been commissioned for the "Cité de la Musique de Genève" international design competition.

I hope you like it!

Thanks Frood,
I couldn't find it in the forum. I will try it!

Many thanks,

Hi everybody,
I can't find a way to colorize scattered objects basing their colours on an image.
This is pretty easy to do with Forest Pack, using Colour Tint.
Is there any chance to do it with Corona Scatter?

This is what I mean:

[Max] I need help! / Indirect lighting issue
« on: 2017-03-06, 17:09:08 »
Hi Everybody,
I would like to know your opinion about this issue.
I have a lamp 3d model and I want to test its photometry while I move the light source.

The light source in not visible directly because it is inserted in its support but the light source (corona light) has all its visibility parameters turned on.

The light should reflect on the upper chrome dome and than should bounce on the ground illuminating the scene.

I tested it in Maxwell render and it works fine, because it is totally unbiased. This is the result I want to achieve:

Strangely I can't reproduce this behaviour in Corona, unless I set the light direction on both sides or I flip it toward the ground. This is the dark render:

I am testing it both with a disk light and a sphere. Obviously the sphere light source produce some lights but it is still hidden by the support:

I tried to turn on the caustic on the chrome material of the reflecting dome and I tried to set the MSI to 0, but it doesn't help.
I know I can flip the light toward the ground and adjust the directionality parameter in order to achieve the result but is is not physically accurate:

Can somebody help me fixing this issue?

Many thanks

Hi Micmac
You have to click with the right mouse button on the highlighted strip, than change the value from 1 to 0.

Hi Micmac,
I resolved the problem disabling FTH:
To disable Fault Tolerant Heap entirely on a system, set the REG_DWORD value HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\FTH\Enabled to 0.
After changing this value, restart the system. FTH will no longer activate for new applications.

I spoke with Ondra last weekend and he explained me that is not a Corona fault but it is related to some Windows Update.
You know Windows now installs some updates automatically and you can not manage them any more.

If you read the Corona Help Desk it seems the problem is related with long pre-rendering, long saving, freezing, etc.
In my case those problems don't occur so we can disable FTH.

Hi Ondra,
Thanks for your explanation.
I don't know what happened because the FTH error message appeared suddenly without modifying anything...
Thanks again and see you in Venice next week!

Hi Maru,
I re-installed 3ds Max, Corona and I cleaned all Autodesk folders.
I cleaned the registry too but the error is still there.

I tried all the solution in Corona Help Desk.
The third solution "Disabling FTH completely" is the only one that works but I am not sure I want to disable it for all programs!!
Actually I don't know what FTH does exactly but maybe it has some utility...

I tried to rename and remove WSCommCntr4.exe but it does not solve the problem.
I checked in the Event Viewer and the executable affected is always WSCommCntr4.exe and not 3ds max itself.

What do you think about that?

Thank you very much for your support!

Hi everybody,
I have a problem with this corona error:

Windows enabled 'Fault Tolerant Heap' for 3dsmax or dependent processes. This may have severe performance impact on Corona. Please follow the link to learn how to solve the problem.
Affected executables are:
WSCommCntr4.exe

I already tried all the solutions you suggest in the help desk: https://coronarenderer.freshdesk.com/support/solutions/articles/5000678431-windows-enabled-fault-tolerant-heap-for-3dsmax-or-dependent-processes-this-may-have-severe-perform

I tried to set both WSCommCntr4.exe and 3dsmax.exe run as administrator flag to on even if I am the admin of my workstation..This solution is suggested in the Autodesk help desk.

I tried to rename or remove the WSCommCntr4.exe from its directory.

Yesterday Corona was working fine.

Today I was just testing some batch render with 3dsmax command line and .bat files.
I just copied the .bat inside the 3ds max root folder and started it. It was working fine but suddenly the Fault Tolerant Heap appeared and now I can not fix it anymore.

Is there someone who can help me?

Thank you very much.

Uups! SOLVED, that was the problem!
Thanks

Hi everybody,
I know you can choose to clear VFB in between renders with the check box.
The problem is that now Corona 1.3 always clear VFB in between render.
The feature works fine during interactive render and there you can actually choose if clearing VFB or not.
The problem happens if you render the image with the VFB. In that case Corona always clears the previous render, both using View or Region Render.
Is this a known problem?

Hi guys,
here you can find a couple of images we made for an architectural design competition.
There are some details taken from the 5k originals.
Hope you like them!

Hi Ecximer,
in my 3ds Max Tools menu I have a huge number of "light lister (corona Renderer)" items.
Please see the attached image. Is there any chance to avoid it?

Thank you very much for your support.
