Title: Corona for massive scale rendering?
Post by: widhi muttaqien on 2015-03-31, 17:36:27
Hi guys,

I'm a long time 3ds max user and VRay, and since I try Corona, I was blown away with it's simplicity and it's quality. I started learning and making a lot and experiment with it. I'm  pretty sure want to switch to Corona for good.

Right now I need to know how good Corona handle large massive area rendering?. Is there any rendering images that maybe I can look at (for prove) ? And maybe some tips and tutorial links of how to make large scale area rendering would be great.

I've made large scale area rendering before with VRay, and with a new project coming in I want to know how good Corona can handle this.

thank you so much

It's depends of the quality of the model. You can create 100.000 square mt with 1000 house (house like a box) and use 16 GB RAM
Or you can create 10 house and eat 24 GB.
From my test, as a "feelings", I think Corona eats more RAM than VRay, maybe because VRay bucket system.
But don't worry, you can crate good environment in Corona! ;-)
Use proxy, instances models, not big textures (if you don't need),  CoronaScatter

Hi cecofuli, I only have a PC with 8 GB RAM. will this be enough? I use that PC with VRAY for massive scale area project before. Would love to try this kind of project with corona.

Ok, 8GB might be on the edge for this type of imagery, esp. if your intent is on scattering high density meshes like trees.

8GB is quite low limit for Vray as well or in general today, but if it works for you in Vray, it *should* in Corona. But as Cecofuli said, even though I am not aware of what the math could be behind, Corona is indeed bit more memory hungry on average.
