I totally missed your response. Just to clarify, I'm not saying it can't be done any other way - It sure can but display tags are there for a reason too. They can really help in organizing everything. I'm pretty much with Shane on this one :)

The real deal breaker is the limitation within C4D. Not sure if it's still the case, but i often hit the limit on number of selected objects/materials/tags user can have to edit all at once.
Also i never counted, neither did dwell further...

The C4D default setting for this is 5000 but can be changed in c4d preferences.
